Shadows on dark backgrounds

How do you deal with shadows on dark backgrounds? Mine seem to disappear...

I change the color and/or opacity of the shadow depending on the background. Sometimes I fiddle with the blend mode too.

I usually do what Sheri said... change up the opacity or the blend mode.
