Second Half of Summer Plans?

I can't believe Summer is already half way over (well at least here it is in terms of school). Just curious what everyone else has planned for the second half of their summer.

We've got a weekend get away with my in-laws next weekend to Ft. Myers for a little beach time and time out on the boat.

Then my youngest has 3-D printing camping at the local science museum, which sounds so cool I want to go with her!

My youngest is turning 13 in the middle of August and we're planning a day of tubing and good friends.

Then we'll be right back in to getting ready for school. And hopefully before school starts we'll get our second bath fixed so all 4 of us aren't trying to shower at the same time in the same shower.
 
We start back in about 3 weeks so summer is quite a bit more than half over for us, sadly. No real plans for the rest of the break other than trying to relax. :) I have to go back to work when the kids go back to school and I'm already sad. I want a longer summer!
 
This upcoming weekend we'll be going to my parents to visit and my sister and nephew will be down as well. Lily will be going back home with Terra for the week as she will be going to an anime drawing camp as well as anime convention. This will be her second year going and last year it was the highlight by far of her summer.

We are going to vancouver island at the end of august for a road trip and I am so excited. We leave a month from today. We found a super affordable little rental and I really am very happy that we made the decision to go. It might not be the best timing but if we wait our whole lives we'll be waiting forever.. lol. Darcy works at a coal mine and the industry right now isn't exactly awesome but trying not to stress.
 
I'm kind of laid up for at least the next 2 weeks, since my gallbladder surgery, no heavy physical activity or lifting anything over 10 pounds.

But after that, we have Girl Scout Camp, a couple lake outings with friends, and the we're going to try and go camping the 5 of us toward the end of August. Pretty lazy I think, I'll try to squeeze in a trip to the zoo and hopefully the local waterpark. I really want to sign Keira & Coop up for swim lessons, but I haven't gotten around to it yet.
 
Half over, eh? That sounds funny. Mine start school August 3rd, so we're heading into our final week of break.

We're working to finish up our summer checklist... Next week we have a zoo trip, a
day trip to another town and some crafty time.

Looking forward to school, but not the early mornings..... :crying:
 
We have 5 weeks left of summer vacation and Cheyanne has one more week of summer basketball league and physical training camp, and I've worked all summer of course so we haven't done a lot.

August 9-15 we have our official week of vacation and will be spending it at our place at the lake. Cheyanne is bringing 2 of her friends (sisters) and they'll hang out with the other kids on the lake while I hang out with my adult people - I plan to do as little as possible in the way of cooking and cleaning - I love having a child old enough now to take care of herself :D

After that week it's back to work for me but Cheyanne will be free on my days off (Sun/Mon) so we have 2 weekend trips planned in our mini motor home. Then the last weekend before school we're headed to New Hampshire for a weekend away to celebrate her birthday and for some shopping.
 
School starts here on tuesday, LOL!

But as for us, we're moving cross country...next week, LOL. So I want to just survive that.
 
This is my last full week of summer break, too, Amy. I have such mixed feelings about it. Like

REDEEM THE WASTED TIME!

but also

SURVIVE AT ALL COSTS.

So who knows what we'll do. We already did vacation in Indonesia, road trip to visit friends and a visit from my parents. Joel is teaching this week, so it's just me and the kids. I'm thinking we'll go to the beach Sunday and Monday the next week before the kids start school on Aug 5.

Summer both flies by and drags along around here.
 
We start back after Labor Day, so half way is probably next weekend. Next week is one of 3 weeks this summer that the kids all have activities at the same time, so I'll have from 9:30 to 1 ALL BY MYSELF. I'm practically counting the minutes, LOL. Some days are already taken up with appointments and house things. I know I should use the other day or two to lesson plan for fall, but I so don't see that happening. I plan to spend 1 morning doing nothing but scrapping. :)

We'll go away to the Poconos with family for a week in August, the kids have various activities, I have some prep for school to do since I'm moving to a new age group, and we'll try to get to the pool. I feel like we've hardly gone this summer. I'm also hoping to get 2 of the kids signed up for swimming lessons, but I'm running out of time.
 
We have a camping trip in a couple weeks and then a week at the beach with friends. We don't go back to school until Sept 2.
 
I'm always amazed (and a little envious!) at how long your summer breaks are! Our school year runs Jan-Dec and our 'big' summer break is just under six weeks, from about 16-20 Dec through to 26-27 Jan. Not long enough!!
 
This is our last weekend too. We start school on Tuesday. We are celebrating my daughter's 15th birthday tonight!!
 
We don't go back to school until the day after Labor day. This coming weekend we're going to visit Erin (eranslow), and then we'll camp most weekends until school starts back up again. No real huge plans other than our big road trip to Iowa. :)

Our summers are nice and long, but I'm guessing you have more time off during the school year than we do. In our school district we have off half a week in Nov for Thanksgiving, 2 weeks for Christmas and New Years, a week in the spring, and a few long weekends scattered throughout the year. That's it. :thumbdown:
 
Sounds like you all are having a great summer. It's half way through winter here, and I for one will be glad to see the back of it ;)

We're currently a week into the 3rd term of school for the kids. Rachel, we have 4 school terms a year (starting early Feb & finishing mid Dec). We get 2 weeks off in-between each term, and 6 weeks at the end of term 4, which is our summer break.

Same here with the breaks. We have 12 weeks during the summer though. Heavenly. :) I LOVE summer breaks now that I work at a school. I used to just tolerate them. :p
 
We're honestly just trying to survive the break right now & i'm really looking forward to when school starts (8/19 for Rian-1st grade & 9/8 for Lola-preschool). Our family has had a summer filled with lots of surprises...we've stopped watching my niece, a new church calling that's taking up 90% of my time now, a family death, I spent a week up at my church's youth girls camp, and then i've been sick & exhausted for the past few weeks. We spent a few days up with my grandpa and we're lucky to have a pool in our complex that we've used over & over. My girls are thankfully easy to please and I really appreciate that right now.

We still have a family reunion, school shopping, & helping my parents move into their new home but that's it.

We're all looking forward to getting back into a routine and fall soccer that both girls will be participating in.
 
Right now I'm just counting down the days until we have furniture again. Last we heard it'll be a month before our stuff arrives. This is turning into the move that won't end considering we left Houston in May!

Other than that we've got a family camping trip planned for August and hopefully Ryan's first Giants game too.

Yes... like Jacinda, we have four terms, each 10 weeks long, so we have three 2-week breaks throughout the year (April, July and end Sep/beginning Oct). My kids would be so worn out without decent regular breaks (and so would I!).

This will be the first year in a long time that we start before Labor Day but it's so late this year that with make-up days for snow this coming winter we could easily be going until July :D So they decided to start on September 1st instead of the 8th.

Wow! 12 weeks??? And 2 weeks for Christmas/New Year's??? How long are your school days? We get 10 weeks off in the summer, 3 days off for Thanksgiving (W, Th, F), and this year we get 11 days for Christmas break but that's because the 1st falls on a Friday so we get an extra weekend out of it (we usually are off from December 24th to January 1st and go back on the 2nd). We get a week in February and a week in April instead of the traditional 2-week spring break all at once.

We only have one week for spring break. It is in March. We have 3 days off for Thanksgiving, typically 12-14 days for Christmas (this year it looks like 12 student days, not counting weekends - 10 teacher days) depending on how it falls, and then a short Easter break. Our days are approx. 7.5 hours. We go from 8:10 to 3:30. We used to have shorter school days and went to school about a week longer. They added a bit on to the school day and it dropped our number of days down. I can't remember the exact number we used to go. I didn't work with the district then so it wasn't on my radar as much. Now we are at 169 student days.

Your days are longer - we have 180 school days and they only go for about 7 hours a day, from 8:10 to 2:50. It's interesting to see what other states do :)
 
Here in Holland we only have 6 to 8 weeks of summer vacation. Depending on wether it's primary school or high school.
But we do have several short 1 week vacations throughout the year and 2 weeks for Christmas.
 
We don't have much planned. Probably just pool time, do stuff around the house, little outings. We always plan a fun road trip for labor day weekend, but that's after school starts back up. This year we are going to go to the Minnesota State Fair. We did just get home from the lakes for the weekend, finally got to go to Itasca State Park which is where the headwaters to the Mississippi River start. So pretty..
 
We did lots of little things up until last week as I was packing up our house to move from Indianapolis to Cheyenne, WY: splash pad, family visit, local historical site, lots of outside time with the neighbors, early bday party for DD, etc.

Since we got here last week, we have visited the closest welcome center, gone to Frontier Days (the largest outdoor rodeo in the universe), ventured into Colorado for a few hours, & explored the city some. In the next 3-4 weeks, I want to drive to the nearest state park (maybe 35 minutes from here?) for a little day trip/hike/picnic in the mountains, check out the local pool/splash pad, visit the nearby bison ranch, go to storytime at the library, and attend the state fair (which is abt 2 hours north of here). DD's actual bday is mid-August, but since she won't be in school yet and won't know anyone, we're going to wait until September to have a party.

What I am most excited abt, though, is planning a couple days of gurl time with my cousin in Denver. I haven't seen her in a couple years, and once she moves into her new place, I am going down to hang out, eat, scrap, and sleep SANS KIDS. She doesn't have kids so it will just be me + her + her BF. I've never been to Denver so I'm excited for her to show me the sights.

Yes it is! Even the districts that are really close to us do things a little differently. They start after Labor Day but they have less days off for inservice days and such and a shorter Christmas break.

Same here for us. DD starts back to school on the 17th, and although I'm trying not to think about it, it's so hard not to be sad. Summer just goes by way too quickly. :crying:

We are trying to make the most of the time we have left though. My mom, sister, and our kids will be leaving on Friday for a few days at Dollywood in Tennessee. The bf and I have a weekend at Hilton Head planned for the weekend before school starts, and at some point, we would like to squeeze in a day trip to Six Flags in Atlanta. Too much to do, not enough weekends to do it!
 
This is the first day of my vacation, going to disneyland paris next friday till monday, and then to centerparcs in france.
a vacationparc with a large pool , restaurants, bowling and other sports.
school begins 30 aug.
