School supplies

Mckenna's starting kindergarten at the end of the month. She's going to public school down the street. It's hard to get any info from the school, the people who work there always seem annoyed when you ask them anything. I thought I could get more help here as to what kind of stuff do you get your kids for kinder?

My co-worker told me usually you get a supply list from the school, but I'm seeing lots of sales now I don't wanna wait for the school.

If you do have a list, can you share what's in it?

Well every school is WAY different in their lists. For kindergarten you could have things from crayons and pencils to nap mats to paint... copy paper even.

Most schools are VERY specific in what they want (ie 1 red folder, 1 blue notebook, etc). So it's not a good idea to try shopping with no list.

Everywhere I've ever lived, you've been able to get school supply lists from local stores. Our WalMart has a huge display with all the local supply lists.

Some schools don't even have you pick up supplies for K (or any grades, lol...but especially K) and just have you pay a fee during the first few weeks school is in. That's what happened here, so I just focused on getting him some clothes, a backpack and a couple lunchboxes (this was recommended to me by other moms...have at LEAST 2, because they often forget them and/or lose them).

yep, our WalMart has school list too. I can also go online to our schools website for a list too.

Chloe's kindergarten list is pretty simple; crayons, markers, pencil box, kleenex, baby wipes, styrofoam cups and bowls (i guess for snacks or parties?) i think thats about it. but we also have a $60 book fee too i think for the year.

Oh yeah...I forgot, lol...the only "supplies" we were asked to send with the kids was a box of kleenex, and a large resealable bag with an extra full outfit for your child (in case of accidents).

Thanks guys. I'll keep checking the school's website. Yesterday they didn't have a list, only the calendar for the school year. I didn't know how different it is between schools. :)

I was wondering about first grade too! Im def checking the website now. Kindergarten they didnt have us send anything but a folder and lunch money.

Our school had very few requirements for school supplies for kindergarden, but they did provide some things, which I know not all schools do.

Here's what he needed (with things his school provided):
Scissors
Tissues
Glue Stick
Crayons
Small art box (for crayons and pencils)
Pencils

Our kindy teacher last year wouldn't let the parents buy school supplies. I was so disappointed! I don't know what he'll need for 1st grade this year yet... if anything.....

I didn't get the K supply list until orientation day. For all the schools in this area, the local stores have the supply lists in the school supply section. And yes, some teachers want particular items, like only red pens or blue pens, highlighters in certain colors, random numbers of pencils, etc so it is hard to shop ahead of time.

Maybe pick up some basics and anyhting you don't supply this year, hold onto for next year.

I remember having to provide like...
4 boxes of 24 count crayons
3 4oz. bottles of school glue
a school box
6 primary composition tablets (these have the top half of the page blank for drawing pictures and dangIT if you can only find them in one store on the whole island!)
2 packs of pencils
1 box of colored pencils
2 boxes of markers
2 folders
and then all the tissue, paper towel, sponges, ziplock bags and change of clothes :glare:
