School Clothes... OUCH!

WOW! That is a lot for clothes, but then if you were home, you would have the same problem. Things have gone up so much here that the food banks can't keep up with the demand. And these are people working 2 jobs. I'm sorry you had to spend so much. Hopefully they can wear them for a while.

That's the ONE thing I loved about uniforms. I didn't have to go thru all that mess of my oldest liking it or not lol..and I spent WAY less..I got nic 4 pairs of khaki pants at Steve and Barrys and 2 black ones...lol..a few polos and button ups, and 2 pairs of shoes for about $200...didn't spend as much on the boy, he didn't need as much and Cam is just wearing her regular clothes lol...I got off pretty easy this year (and i still complained lol)

We will probably go shopping the end of this week and I am dreading it. I only have one is school right now and I can't imagine next year when I have them both in school

I really lucked out this year. At the beginning of the summer Anthony need new "summer clothes" that were not uniforms. So I hit Gymboree during a HUGE sale that was also during GymBuck accrual ... so I got a TON of clothes for the summer PLUS Gymbucks.

Then when it was time for school shopping (uniforms) last month I got him 12 polo shirts and 5 pairs of shorts ... with my Gymbucks it came out to $130 with shipping.

My kids have almost exclusively Gymboree wardrobes because I shop smart there. I buy during Gymbuck accrual - but only sale items. Then I use my Gymbucks on sale items as well. Because Yuma's seasons are "off" normal seasons it works really well. I can get better quality clothes at Target/WalMart prices.

I feel your pain. I didn't add it all up yet (fraidy cat I know) but I do know that I have been leaking money for a couple of weeks now between supplies, clothes and shoes. I do hand me downs as much as possible but the two oldest have totally different figure types so it doesn't always work and doesn't usually for shoes. I do want them to have some really cute new stuff for school so I caved but I get a lot of the basics from thrift stores - then get them some really great stuff. We had a big fashion show last night and the baby felt left out since she isn't back to school so I had to dig a big bin of her sisters clothes out in the next size - she was thrilled with all her "new" gear. My kids pretty much wear what I buy but I take their likes into account and involve them in the shopping.

I work at a children's clothing store, so the temptation to overshop is SO hard to resist! LOL... this year, I'm bemoaning that my little guy is going into a charter school that wears uniforms. Uniforms?! :( Not fun to buy uniform clothes! Because I still have to buy 'everyday' clothes too, this isn't helping my budget any.

I still haven't taken my teenage son out to the store. Luckily he only needs shirts!

Well, I was just inspired by this thread and went out for a little afternoon shopping. Just a couple things that were on sale. I still have to take stock of what they have that still fits and then fill in the gaps. So far, I have only gotten this for Madeleine:

and this for Ben:

and then, of course, I had to get something for myself:

And that was it. I think I will be waiting a little longer for the rest. Although, I did see that Stride Rite was having a Buy One Get One Half Off sale. I might have to stop in there this weekend to take advantage of that.

These were super cute:

I so feel everyone's pain. It is so hard to balance what to get kids to wear.

I did most of my son's early fall/ spring shopping in June. I got tons of outfits at The Children's Place for about $150. I also picked up a few things at Target.

He has to have a new backpack this year because his old one is too small, and I usually order that from Land's End: his last one lasted 4 years!!

I'll hit up Elder Beerman's, Kohl's, and JC Penney's for clearance and sale items over the next month or so for a few more hot weather outfits and some late fall/ winter clothes. He's outgrown all of his coats and shoes, so that is a big expense over the next few months.

He's in middle school this year and totally self-conscious about "fitting in"- not in the sense of doing what everyone else is doing (he definitely doesn't care about that), but he doesn't want to look like a "dork." So depending on how you look at it, my biggest "help" or problem is that his high school cousins and his cousin who is in his class are girls- and big time into fashion, so they have decided to help "dress" him this fall. They have taken him shopping and have had him model everything. They have also told him how to wear his clothes.

He totally loves it!! But he has fallen in love with Abercrombie (he loves the feel of their shirts- thanks, girls) and Zara, so we are "accessorizing" his wardrobe with those brands- without breaking my wallet.
