That is so scary! And so close to your house! Did the authorities say that they are coming unusually close because they are getting ready for hibernation?
We rented a house in lake Tahoe once and a BIG bear was on the porch looking for the garbage cans, I guess. On that same night, another bear was actually trying to get into a house - with the people in it. These were those big brown bears like (Bear in the Big Blue House type). And, our car was broken into by those small black hears in Yosemite a long time ago.... this was before it was common. The rangers advised just covering up your ice chest in the back of your car. Now we all know that they have an awesome sense of smell and keeping food out of site is obviously not enough!
Grizzlies are scary! I saw that documentary on the ones that hunt humans. We have mountain lions that attack people where we live. Not a common thing. They sometimes attack people on trails so people are told to watch out when they run or hike on trails in the foothills.
