Scanning slides?

I saw a device in BB&B sale flyer yesterday that is supposed to scan your slides and negatives. It is $99. I thought you had to take slides somewhere to get that done.

My mom has a box full of old slides of family pictures from over 30 years ago and some are 50 plus years old. No one has viewed them, short of holding them up to the light, in well over 30 years. I was thinking of "borrowing" them, and scanning them and creating a scrapbook for her for Mother's Day or her birthday in June.

Does anyone have a scanner like this? I was wondering what kind of resolution/quality I'd get from a scanner like this.

Advice?

I have a negative scanner on my Epson All-in-One printer and I use it all the time. It works great. Although, I just recently borrowed some negatives from my mom that were of me in my childhood (mid 70's) and they are not in the 35mm format...I think they are the 126 format, and it is not working with that size. Some of the negatives are too old and are deteriorating and I am having better luck just scanning in the original photos. When I scan some of the negatives, everyones eyes end up being completely white or like their eyeballs have been pulled out of their sockets. On the otherhand, some of them have scanned in just fine. I have thought about sending off the negatives to a company to see if they can do a better job, but it scares me to send anything irreplaceable in the mail.

I have never done slides...do you have a link to this product? I would be interested in looking at it.

I recently bought a new scanner just for that purpose, and it works great! I have an Epson Perfection V200 Photo, which can scan slides and negatives (I've just tried slides, so far, though!) Just play with the settings before scanning to make sure you have the best resolution!
