A while back, there was a big discussion about ScanMyPhotos. I just noticed they're offering a pretty good deal on Groupon: $29 for the scanning of 1,000 4 x 6 photos, including return shipping.
Has anyone used them, and if so, what did ya think??
I've never used them, but others have and said how good they were so I was going to get the last groupon deal until I found out it was only 4x6 photos and most of the photos I need scaned are from the mid to late 90's and they are all 3.5x5.
But if you have the 4x6 to scan it's totally worth it!!!
Lydia, just so you know, while their deals are usually for any size photos, the groupon deals are for ONLY 4x6 photos. I still got it last time, but lots of older photos aren't actually 4x6.
Honestly, I'm gonna send in a bunch of that size and see what happens. I bought it before I knew the groupon deal was for ONLY 4x6, so we'll see what happens. I'll let everyone know if I get away with it, lol.
So, I just got my photos back, and for the most part they look really great. There were a few, however, that have been cropped into kind of strange sizes. Nothing important was cropped out, but I don't really understand why it was done at all.
No - they are cropped. Like the dimensions on one of them is 1780x546. That is the most noticeable one for sure. I just don't get why they would bother cropping them. And, even the normal ones are all different sizes by just a few pixels. Kinda weird.
As far as I can tell, it's not a person scanning by them hand. They go into a machine. So I think sometimes it's just the way the photo lands on the scanning bed.
Yeah - with the volume they handle I figured they don't have anyone doing it by hand. It just seems really weird to me, especially since none of them are crooked and none of them cut off any faces or important parts of the photo. It's not a HUGE deal. What I got is great and well worth the price I paid for it. I just thought it was strange and wondered if anyone else had a similar experience.
