RQOTD: Ramen Noodles

:) Yes we're having this for supper tonight with grilled cheeses...Do I win the Mom award or what? lol

Anyway, DH and I have had a long standing disagreement on how Ramen Noodles should be prepared. I boil the noodles and then drain off 95 percent of the water and then add the seasoning. I like them with lots of flavor and little water. He on the other hand leaves the water and adds the seasoning as is which to me is so gross b/c then you just have chicken flavored water with noodles.

Sooo....which way to you make them..if you make them at all ( and believe me I know these are not the healthiest things in the world) :p

LOL - when DD makes them she boils them and then puts just the noodles in her bowl and then pours just enough of the water from the pot to cover them about halfway. Then she adds her seasoning packet. So, I guess about halfway between you and DH :D

bwahahah - my hubby and I have the same "discussion"!!! I drain most of the water before I season, and hubby adds the seasoning to the water and all. He argues that I make the noddles wrong - I put the water and noodles in the microwave together and cook - then drain off the water... hubby boils the water on the stove, then adds the noddles...

Connor does it however the package suggests, then adds in a dehydrated vegetable mix I made for him to add a little bit of nutrition to it. No one else in our house eats them.

In our house that meal is known as "soup and grilled cheese", haha. I never make it but Adam makes it on the stove and I'm pretty sure he adds the seasoning with the water in it. But he also adds egg to it while it's cooking, which sounds weird but it's actually really good.

We add seasoning to water (after noodles are boiled/cooked) and then drain off some of the water before serving.

I might try that egg idea. Sounds like egg drop soup :-9

I cook them with less than the suggested water, so probably in between how they are made at your house.

The problem here is that Destiny's mom calls them ray-men and we call them rah-men. Poor Destiny doesn't know what to call them.

I've never eaten them. But, since I never add that extra can of water to condensed soup, I'd probably do it the way you do, if I were to eat them.

I don't like them watery so I add less water than called for. I also add the seasoning before I cook them.

I call them RAY-men too Nikki :) But had heard it your way.

Nikki I eat them totally drained with about half the pack of seasoning.

So, I'm weird, but I love mine soupy with water! I cook it in a bunch of water, drain almost all of it out and add seasoning (though we only had half the seasoning). Then I dish it and dh adds more seasoning and I add water to mine. So uh, you REALLY wouldn't like mine with all that lack of seasoning!

If it's ramen noodle soup, it's with the full water. But 90% of the time we use them as noodles. As in, with stir fry on top. If I'm just making them plain for the kids, older son wants them drained and younger son wants them as soup.

I call them rah-men too.

Exactly as the directions say, but its been years since I had them. I've never heard anyone say ray men before, only rah men. Didn't even realize it was a debate.

The only kind I've had is Mr.Noodles and I don't drain the water but add seasoning to it so it's like a chicken noodle soup.

We call them rah-men too. (which, according to the Maruchan Ramen webpage, is the correct way to say it LOL)

Honestly, I don't use the seasoning at all...if I eat them, I'll just boil them in water with a little salt, drain off the water, and then add in meat/veggies.

And have you ever looked at the info on the back? the Maruchan Ramen package says that it is two servings...so you've basically got to double the info on the back if you eat the whole package.

I don't use the seasoning packet at all. I drain all of the water unless I'm making a sauce, then I keep some of the water. I use them as noodles not as soup. I add lots of fresh veggies and use the noodles sparingly. A package will feed my family of 4 easily - sometimes with leftovers.

Jonathan will do this too and sometimes he also adds crab meat or shrimp or green onions. He grew up in Hawaii and ate Saimin (Hawaiian name for Ramen and what we call it in our house) all the time. Many, many variations of it.

He keeps all the water after boiling the noodles. He actually adds the seasoning not long after the noodles are put in.

I drain some of the water - maybe 50% then add my seasoning.

We eat this way more than we should in our house - well maybe once or twice a week but still....it's not very good for us but, it's so cheap and easy!

I season it when the cook and then drain all the water out and just eat the noodles lol. We dont eat them anymore though, we go for the microwavable Yakisoba ones if we buy anything like that.

When I make them for me, I make them like you do....as little water as possible....and I only eat the Oriental flavor. It's my fave.

When I make them for my kids, I make them like your hubby. They don't like it too flavorful...and they don't even want the broth with theirs....and they only eat the Oriental flavor because it's my fave. ;)

my great-aunt made Saimin for us with crab and vegetables and it was sooo good!

If I eat it as soup, I cook it according to the package, but drop an egg in it like Lynette. My dad lived off of that in college and taught it to me and I can't eat it plain anymore.

DH is a ramen-lover, and he uses it mostly as noodles. He cooks them, drains them, adds the whole packet of seasoning, and then tops it with fried eggs (with soft yolks), chili, or nacho cheese.

I've since convinced him to only use half a packet of seasoning. We've used them as Chinese noodles before too.

I like mine the same way you make them, but DH eats them like your hubby.

lol....I make it like you do, my kids make it like your DH !!!! how funny that we all make it different!!! My kids also microwave theirs for 6 mins and I do mine on the stove causxe I think it tastes better!

I used to make them for my day care kids draining most of the water off after noodles are cooked and then adding the flavor packet. I also added a couple of ice cubes to it to cool it off more quickly and called it "ice cube" soup. I had parents telling me that their kids wanted ice cube soup over the weekend and would I please tell them what that is?? LOL.
My DD's MIL makes it per the instructions for the grandkids and adds a scrambled egg to it calling it "giggle soup"...they love it, lol!

I have only eaten them during my 4th pregnancy for about a 3 month period of time. They were the only things I could keep down. I can't remember exactly how I made them but if I had to guess I'd say like you drain almost all water out and then add the seasoning!!! :D :D

LOL - Cheyanne still calls them bubba noodles because her brother ate them every blessed day after school when he was in high school and she was just a toddler - she called him bubba, so they became know as bubba noodles :D

I don't eat them but my college boy got 2 cases of 36 packages when he moved into his house! (DH and I both bought them separately - ha!) He eats them just as noodles...drains off all the water, throws away the flavor packet, puts them on a plate, and salts them.
