RQOTD: Hometowns...

Just something I am curious about. When asked about what your hometown is do you say the place of birth, the place you grew up or where you currently reside? For me where I grew up and where I live now is the same place but I do not consider my birth place to be my hometown since I have no memory of the place.
 
Well, I was born and raised in Houston; lived there until I was almost 34 years old. I live in OKC now, but I'll always be a Houstonian and a Texan. Whenever I'm asked about my hometown or where I'm from, I answer something along the lines of "I'm from Houston, but I now live in OKC."

LOL whenever I omit the first part, I hear 'oh, you're an Okie' or something like that...and I have to dispel that! So it's easier to let people know otherwise up front :D
 
Well for me my hometown is my place of birth, where I grew up and where I live now. lol

I lived in the same house from the time I was 6 months old til 7 yrs ago, and then I just moved next door....literally separated by a driveway. My parents still live in that home so it's nice living right next door to them. And I was born 15 minutes from my house in local hospital.
 
I've lived all over the country and anytime someone asked me where my hometown was, I would say the place where I spent my school years (I lived in the same town and same home from K through12.) I was born in a different town and never refer to that as my hometown because I didn't live there very long. I
 
Hmm... this is a confusing one for me. I was born in south-western NY, in a small town where my grandparents still live. But I didn't officially live there for long, before the age of 6 we moved to Potsdam & then Rochester. But we visited A LOT and it felt like home. At 6, we moved to south FL, the town where I currently live. When we visited NY during my childhood, I called it "home" because my parents called it home (it's where my dad was born & raised and where my mom was raised). We still visit every year and it feels like coming home. I consider it my hometown. It's where my family comes from. :) But, at the same time Florida is really my hometown. LOL! It's where I was raised and it's where I live currently, but NY will always be my REAL home town... if that makes any sense at all. :p

Thankfully, people don't ask me that question very often. :blink:
 
When asked for my hometown I say the town were I grew up and have lived in for 16 years. To me it will always be home.
 
when I answer that question, the answer depends on who is asking and why. LOL

I spent birth-12 years old in San Diego. I still feel the pull of California in my blood, so it's the answer that I want to give.

But I spent age 13-25 across the water from Seattle. All my true growing up, high school, young adult memories are from there.

Now I live in Oregon, and I never claim this area as my hometown even though I've lived here longer than any other area. LOL
 
That's easy for me - Joplin, Missouri will always be my hometown. My mom still lives in the house I was raised in and my sisters still live there.

I've been in Arizona since I graduated from college. Still a Missouri girl at heart. :)
 
My hometown would be the place where I was raised. Good ole Wisconson Rapids, WI :D I wasn't born there - for insurance reasons I was born in a hospital 30 minutes away though my parents lived in Rapids.

well, i guess it depends on the context of the question, but normally i would say that i'm from houston and dallas - i.e., the two cities where i spent my childhood (until college). i've lived all over since then, so i usually mention that as well.
 
Where I grew up, not where I was born. I moved away for college and then again after I got married, but I've been back in the area for almost 9 years and live within 5 miles of the house where I grew up (even though it's a different town). I feel very fortunate that we never moved while I was in school and hope to have the same stability for my kids!
 
We moved the summer before I went into 7th grade so my childhood was kind of split. But I always go with the town where I graduated high school as my hometown.

It does depend on who's asking though. We get this question a lot in the military and I usually start with "California" and then elaborate if they ask what part.
 
I was born in one place, spent my school years in another but I think of my current city as my hometown. I've lived here longer than any other place, it's where I've made my family. I like it here better than where I grew up so I'm sure that factors into it too.
 
I usually answer the town I graduated from high school from cause thats where my mom still lives. I only lived there for a couple of years when I was born and then again a couple of years before I graduated. In between, I lived in another town. I have been thinking lately though, the city I live in now, I have lived longer than either of those and it really is my home.
 
I always think hometown is where you grew up... so for that it is Fremont, WI... only about 30 mins west of where I live now (and actually where I was born - I was born in the same hospital as my son was... :))
 
I was born and raised in Erie, PA, lived there until I was in my mid 30's, so it is my home town. Nappanee is my home now though, and boy do I get razzed about being Amish. :D
 
I was born in Colorado but wasn't there even 6 months so that definitely isn't home. I then spent a stint in Kansas before my grandma adopted me. Grandma moved me to Arizona when I was 3. I lived in Arizona (save one year when I was 7 that we lived in Kansas) until I graduated high school. I consider Arizona home. Thing is though, growing up I lived in Cave Creek, Carefree, Phoenix, Mesa and Apache Junction. I spent from 4th - 8th grade in Mesa and I still lived there through high school but I went to high school in Apache Junction. When people ask my home town I either say AJ or Mesa. Both are home. I have, however, lived in Kansas for 20 years now, so longer than I lived anywhere else and if I were traveling away from here and someone asked where I was from, I'd probably say Kansas since I've lived here for so long, my kids are from here and we are raising our family here.
 
It sort of depends on who's asking. If they're from Massachusetts, I'll answer with the city I'm living in now, Everett. If it's someone from outside of Massachusetts who's not familiar with the state, I'll usually just say Boston. I was born in and lived in cities that border Boston (Somerville, Cambridge, Medford, and Everett) my whole life.

I've found that if I answered with the city I lived in at the time, I'd end up having to explain it was near Boston so it became easier just to say Boston.

My hometown is where I was born & raised - Wheeling WV. I've now spent as many years living in this area as I did there, even if you allow for only coming home weekends and holidays from college. I;m just as likely to say my hometown when I am asked "where are you from" as give this area. It sort of depends on who is asking.
 
My hometown is where i was born and raised up until i was 14 that will always be my home, i lived an hour outside of Fresno, CA i was born about 2 miles from my house then between the year 2000- today i have moved about 9 times total
 
well I just same VA :) I was born about an hour away(closest hospital), but pretty much lived my whole life in the same town until I joined the military at 20 and I have pretty much lived aroudn the world for 13 years and landed in WA in 2003 and have been here ever since :) and since I carry an accent I get asked alot where I am from and my answer is "I was born and raised in VA :D"
 
My hometown is the town I grew up in. I was born in IL, and moved just before I turned 4, and lived in basically the same town for 15 years. I've been on the move since.
 
My hometown is the town in Connecticut that I was raised in. We moved there just before I started kindergarten, and I lived there until I went to college. My parents still live in the same house I was raised in.
 
for me, my hometown is where i grew up.
i was born about 1/2 an hour away, lived in my hometown until i moved in with darik and now we live about 10 min from where i grew up. it's all relative around here (literally)
 
My hometown is where I was born and raised, not where I live now (I am 2.5 hours from my hometown now). DH gets so mad when I call that my hometown. My parents have lived in the same house for 37 years....that's home!
 
geez I feel like I have moved a hundred times in my life but in reality it is about 20. I have lived in a few different states but I call my hometown where I spent 2nd grade til I was 17 and then later went back to. But it would be several little cities in the same Metro area, so I just say South Florida. lol. I lived all over Broward county hehe and am a Florida Girl through and through. Was born in Tamp and now live outside Orlando.
 
Usually something like "Northern California, near the Oregon border" Basically 'hometown' is more like 'home county' .
 
Where I grew up. I was born in upstate New York, but only lived there for 9 months. Then I spent age 9months to 5 years in L.A. Then age 6 until about 32 in Seattle. I consider my hometown Seattle. Especially since my parents are from there too.

This is kinda what I do. I say Northwest Arkansas, because I've lived in this area for almost my whole life, but not in any one town. I lived out in the county from 1st through 11th grades and it was far enough from town that I never felt like the city I went to school in as my hometown.
