Do you store food? I don't mean in your refrigerator and cupboards and pantry... do you purposely store up food and supplies "just-in-case"?

We do :) It's MN... being snowed in isn't a far fetched idea. We keep our supply in our basement on shelves. It looks a little like a small food shelf down there. My family thinks we're bonkers but *shrug* I like it.

Yes, we do. I would love to say we have tons but not really. Right now I probably have about 2wks worth of meals here in the house. I have storage of wheat, beans, rice, sugar, oats those types of things stored for emergencies too. Oh and we have lots of water too;. I used to have about a 3mos supply of food but the end of last year was REALLY REALLY hard on us and that food became very useful. I am working on getting the supply back up.
 
I do. Not for siege conditions, but jus so that I don't have to run to the store and pay mega prices for single items. I store mostly the things that I use a lot in cooking and well... maybe I do store somethings. We have an emergency store for earthquakes:p. Extra water, MREs, first aid supplies and canned goods.
 
I maintain a fairly large stockpile in pantry items and frozen food, mainly for the cost effectiveness of buying in bulk, and because cooking is one of my main hobbies and I like to have a variety of stuff on hand (kind of like a scrapping stash ;) ) so if I am feeling inspired, I can "create" w/o a huge trip to the grocery store. But it has definitely come in handy the few times that we have been snowed in, or on weeks where the car needs repair and we can't grocery shop.

oh, we have MRE's too and they go with our 72 hr kits. I forgot about those! We have enough for about 2 meals a day per person. There are 6 of us! Those things have a like 5+ year shelf life!!
 
I don't even keep a DAY'S worth of food in my kitchen. :p

I'm trying to get better about having a week's worth of groceries so we don't end up at the grocery store every day. It was going good till I lost my menu and couldn't remember what I was supposed to cook.
 
I keep back-ups of high-demand items in this house...ketchup, cereals, oatmeal, butter, cheese, etc for example.
 
We do. And believe me, after Hurricane Ike, we were really glad we had the supplies. We probably don't have as much as we should in pantry items, but between the pantry and the freezer, we've got at least a week's worth of meals stored.
 
Hmmm, not in any organized fashion, but I stock up when things are on sale, so if we had some sort of disaster we could probably make it a couple of weeks on the food we have stored. Water would be a problem though.
 
Definitely. We've got about 6 months of essentials (rice, wheat, oats, sugar, etc) plus our 72 hour emergency kits. With everything that's going on, I figure it can't hurt to be prepared.
 
I try to keep at least a months worth of food. Being in Earthquake country it's really important that we are prepared for a week at the very least. I try to keep things that don't have to be cooked.

In 1994 with the Northridge Earthquake we were without water, gas, and electricity for four days. Thank goodness we had a small barbecue. Now our barbecue is off of natural gas, so that won't help us much. IF we can get to our where we store our motorhome (about 5 miles away) we'd be fine. We keep it gassed up, full of fresh water, and propane. We can go a week to two weeks in the motorhome. For this reason, we do keep a 4x4 vehicle as we wouldn't have ANY problem getting to the RV. At our old home we were able to keep the RV at the house.

At work, I have 5 MRE's. I also keep a backpack full of water, medicines, and feminine goods.

On a side note... I also keep ALL my pictures backed up on a little EHD. In an emergency it's at the top of the list to be grabbed.
 
We are working on our 1 year food storage and 72 hour kits. I also did alot of canning this last summer and plan on doing more this summer.
 
I buy up when there are sales...so that is the main reason...however I HATE going out in bad weather so I buy up for that reason. ...however I have a son that works at a grocery store so he brings home a few things for me each day he works (I feel lucky)...
 
We have about 3 days worth of non-perishable, no-electricity-needed emergency food and water. We generally have enough staples in the pantry and freezer that we could make it a week or so, but those foods aren't just for emergency use and many require power.
 
It's a good idea no matter WHERE you live to have some sort of emergency kit. Having said that, we haven't put one together yet, lol.
 
Well, without power, our food wouldn't do us much good. It's not that it's all perishable, it's just that we'd have no way to prepare anything.
 
We do have some stored - maybe a week's worth or so. But, we can't keep stuff for too long because we have to store it in our garage and it's SO hot in there in the summer.
 
No, we should probably have a few things (like water)... but we have large walk in pantry that is always full.
 
We're more likely to need it in a winter emergency which is good because it is our freezer that is best stocked. The pantry is fairly full most times, with things like rice, pasta, oats & flour, but we are not big on eating canned goods so putting together a meal after a day or two when the fresh supplies have run out or gone bad might be a challenge
 
We have a one year food supply that we rotate. My MIL is BIG into food storage so that's what we get every year for Christmas.
 
Yes I do. But I do most of my shopping 45 minutes away, and the nearest Costco is 90 minutes, so its not like I can just run & grab what I need whenever. I have to plan ahead & stock up, especially in the winter.
