Random Organization Question

I'm trying to go through and organize all my kits so that I can back them up onto a 2nd EHD and I realized I've kept all the zipped files from everything. I know it's taking up a ton of space, but is there a reason to keep them? I want to make sure I'm good in case anything ever happens to my EHDs....

Thanks!

Same as the rest. I delete all zips once I unzip and make sure everything is OK with the kit. Like Jamie said, they can become corrupt over time so its really not worth it.

I also delete all my zip files. They're just not worth keeping around when you've got precious hard drive space to think about!! :)

this is what i do.

save zip file to hard drive of laptop.
extract zip file to EHD.
at some point I copy extracted files to backup EHD or burn DVDs.
then I delete the zips.

So I keep the zips as a sort of backup until I've backed up the files to another location. Long-term I don't keep zips.

It's probably overkill but it's they way I am :p

I have a Mac and they get automatically extracted and the zips thrown away. But, when I had PC, I burned the zips to DVD and then deleted them.

I delete mine too, but I think when I get my EHD, I will prob zip them and keep them on the EHD as a zipped file.

You're better off backing up unzipped files on your EHD.... as other ladies have mentioned, zip files can become corrupt over time and would be no use to you if they did become corrupt.

And the zip files don't really save you any space either, compared to just saving the unzipped kits.

Deleter here, obviously :p

I keep all my zipped files in a 'to burn' folder until I have enough of them to burn to a DVD. Once I burn them I delete them. I used to just delete them right after extracting but after hearing a few friends having to contact a million designers to get stuff when their HD's crashed I got nervous.

Pam, just be careful because zip are much more suseptible to corruption. I think that's why most burn the actual files instead of the zips.

Yeah, I hear ya Col. I have the actual unzipped files on two EHD's and my laptop so I always think I'm ok but I really do need to burn DVDs of the files like I used to.

Just making sure :) I have 2 ehd's with everything, and my laptop hd has all my ct stuff and most used stuff (like SSD). So I hear ya on super protection, lol.
