question for those who paper scrap (or used to)

I have alot of paper scrapping books/magazines and while I see some similarities in the two (digi and paper) I do not see the multiple paper layers that you do in digital. I was wondering when you paper scrapped did you conserve paper or did you do alot of the same blocking/layers that we do in digi? Seems like a waste to cut the paper up to me if it is actual paper. I also have went shopping in the paper scrapping section and see some of those elements (or embellishments) seem to be kinda expensive. Did you tend to stay away from alot of the pricier embellishments? Just seems like paper scrapping could easily set you back thousands of dollars if you were not careful. Heck I was going to do just one page for a trip to Universal where I got picture with cat-in-the-hat and had about 20 dollars of stuff picked out.

My pages had very few elements on them.... I mostly bought papers, ribbons, stickers, rubons, and brads. I couldn't afford all the pretty flowers and charms and such. My pages were really flat.... and I would go a little crazy with the 3D dots so it would have a little dimension. :D

I used to spend a lot of $ on paper scrapbooking. On the other hand, once the page was done, it was DONE. No printing costs!

:D I refuse to divulge how much I've spent on paper scrapping stuff, but I have a wardrobe full and 30 full albums on the shelf. Digi is MUCH more economical than paper

My paper scrapping looked nothing like my digi! It was all very plain... lol, me and my scalloped scissors and some paper, that was mostly it, with the exception of stickers! :D I had no idea there was scrapping like this style! Like some of the galleries I look through for the p2d challenge, I'm shocked! I'd never seen that kind of stuff before with paper scrappers.
So, no, my digi scrapping is nothing like my paper stuff I'd done.

I used a *LOT* of paper on my layouts. Thank goodness I did a lot of work for companies and got a lot of it for free because I would've gone broke otherwise. Granted, I still spent a pretty penny... it was nothing to go into the local store and come out after spending $50 and having just a small little bag of goodies.

I remember once I sent one of my layouts in to a mag for publishing (the actual physical layout), and one of the editors emailed me and was cracking up about how heavy it was.

But I don't miss those super heavy albums. I love printing my digi pages and being able to store a ton of them nice and flat in my little albums. :)

Don't forget, either, that once you cut up and use that Martha Stewart paper from Michael's that you paid FULL PRICE FOR (because clearly Martha is hurting for cash and needs my money)...that's it, it's gone. I like the reusable-ness of digi...If I fall in love with a paper from La's new kit, I can use it over and over and over and over.

I definitely didn't use as much stuff as I do on my digi lo's. It cost too much, and was too bulky for my books.

Word.

I giggle when I look at the one paper album I almost completed when Libby was a baby. I might cringe a little too, lol!! Definitely nothing like my digi pages. I had a serious sticker addiction and there wasn't really any dimension to the pages except for that created by the few little pop dots that I used. Digi is definitely more economical and SO much more fun!! I still have most of my paper scrapping stuff and it's nice to peruse through it every now and then, but I could never go back!!

I still spend a lot on paper supplies and believe it or not I was a digiscrapper first. Digiscrapped for almost two years before I started paper scrapping. To be honest I much prefer paper scrapping because I like being able to touch the paper and the embellishments, that's why Í do a lot of hybrid.

When I paper scrapped I used my rubber stamps alot to make my own patterned papers. It seemed more economical at the time to just buy solid papers. Now when I look back on the pages I just cringe at how bad they look. LOL!

I use a lot of paper, I also save my scraps so I tend to go back to them if I just want to use a piece. I am also a big hoarder too tho! Here are few pages that I did layer on:

Here is one where I probably used scraps on all the circles that are layered:

And here is one that was inspired by digi scrapping:

I use a lot of paper and other elements when paper scrapping, but I probably use less ribbon and more buttons with paper scrapping because of adhesive (ribbon is so picky about the adhesive you use on it IRL). I also do slightly less layering (2 layers vs 3-4) of elements with paper. I save my paper scraps from it to do cards primarily.

Isn't that the truth!! Digi is way more economical than paper!

I layer paper a lot - but I have a trick...if I REALLY like the paper that I'm layering over, I will sometimes cut the center out - leaving a big open square in the center that would be covered by the other paper. Then I would have some of the paper left to use elsewhere.

Cindy, I've heard that and it's such a fab idea but I'm way too lazy! LOL!

I look at a lot of the digi pages out there, and think that they would probably be impossible to do in real life paper scrapping, because the book would be SO thick, you'd never close it.

I only dabbled in paper scrapping, and I tend to scrap like I envision things would look on paper for the most part.

I would honestly rather have paper scrapped pages, then digital, but I do not have time, money or patience to do so. I like how if I mess up, I can click ctrl-z and my boo-boo is magically gone LOL. Or, If I have no mojo I can just delete whatever I'm working on.

Jamie, my books ARE very thick, and I have a ton of them and I've only been paper scrapping for like 6 years! LOL!

I also adore the fact that you never run out of alphas in digi! LOL!

Um yeah, I am sooooooooo cheap. I used hardly any paper or embellishments. My pages were very simple. I still think they look okay, but I like my digital ones a million times better!

I started paper scrapping 15 years ago...I made albums for EACH of my boys so I bought 3 of everything! I used lots of expensive elements...however I was always cautious to use "safe" things in my albums...I can only think of a very few things that were risky I put in them. I am glad now that I do digi...I can put "anything" in my album and not worry about AFLF...because it all is...and I only have to BUY ONE of anything for all 3 books! lol

I have a whole room in the basement dedicated to paper scrapping... I wish someone would come and ebay it for me...I'm too busy digi scrapping to stop and do it. I used to do about 365 layouts a year in paper...now I do about 500 layouts a year in digi...so definitely faster for me and much less mess!

Dh totally believes that digi is cheaper as he bought me a really nice laptop (which has been in the repair shop since September 18...but we won't go to that incompetency discussion now)...he says he saves money by me being digi.

Digi rocks! I can digi scrapbook just about anywhere.

I paper scrapped for 9 years before I started digi. My pages would have 2 paper layers (I framed just about all of my photos) and a ton of stickers normally. Stickers were the only economical supply really. A lot of that stuff is expensive. Even not buying that, every time I went to the scrapping store, I would leave spending at least $50. I have so much stuff I need to eBay sometime.

I hear ya! When I start to get depressed, I re-organize my paper stuff. The feel of it, the smell of it is theraputic. My husband totally supports my scrapping, paper or digi. He can tell that it keeps me sane. I am not a shopper by nature because I am too cheap. But with scrapping, I will buy. I started paper scrapping for our wedding 6 years ago. I actually kept the scraps back then. But then I had this bag full of scrap, and it looked like trash. So I got rid of it. If I have a really nice paper I want to use a small part of on a page, I will do another page at the same time forr one of my other books. I have 9 all together. Each child has one. There is a family one, the wedding one, a twin one and a me one. I should be able to find another use for my paper scrap, but it has to be scrapped at the same time. I love embellishments. I have a huge tote full of 'em.

Hence the reason I went digital, ;)

I was really into "clean" and simple pages when I paper scrapped. I never used paper quite like I do in digi but holy goodness I spent embarrassing amounts of money on scrapping. Thank goodness for digi.

I always wanted to paper scrap but hated the idea of all the stuff everywhere. Digital is perfect for me but I still have stuff everywhere because I am a crafter and use digital things for my crafts. LOL

I spent thousands on my paper scrap stash!! But, was able to sell it for $2500. I never paper scrapped like I digi scrap.

I still keep scraps...since I teach paper scrapping they sometimes come in handy, but mainly I use them for cards, or in the cricut for an alpha. Another thing I use is CK's "Easy Patterns for Scrapbooking" It's great for scrapping several pages and a card or tag or something out of a minimal amount of supplies. Come in really handy when I get behind with geocaching papge... Which I am at the moment...LOL

I've decided that I much prefer my digi pages to my paper pages.
But, I have more stuff than I would like to even think about putting an amount on.
So, I pretend that I still paper scrap. I do make mini albums and stuff with my stuff, but I don't plan on making paper scrapped pages at all anymore. I like my digi style, but I can't really make it translant into paper. So, I stick to hybrid and hoard my paper stuff and wish I could make the paper pages I dream of.

I only paper scrapped a couple of pages before going digi, but the cost and bulk have stopped me from doing any hybrid pages. (I've done some other hybrid projects, but nothing that would go in my nice, flat digi-albums.)

I started out paper scrapping almost 6 years ago. I didn't use a lot of paper because for some reason I did feel like I was wasting it if I cut up a bunch of shapes and stuff like we do in digi. I didn't buy many expensive embellishments but I had tons of little colored brads, jewels, etc...
No, I didn't have many layers at all. One or two papers and some embellishments was it on my paper pages.

I never paper scrapped. so I have no input.

lol - same for me. Although can I say, I went into a scrapbook store (for the FIRST time!!!) the other week ... I was intimidated by the amount of stuff there! Where the heck would you even start?!?! I really, really want to try doing something hybrid, but am at a total loss as to where to even begin. What do I need to do it, how much, why? lol

I used a lot of product on most of my paper pages, but I sold scrapbook stuff (so I got it at cost) AND I was on design teams where I got it for free.
