Question about baby growing

My daughter is right at 34 weeks (my counter says 34 weeks because she has a scheduled c-section on 10/11 but she is really due 10/14.) Today she went to the doctor and they did another sonogram. The doctor has been concerned about her weight gain and how it is effecting the baby. My daughter has had horrible acid reflex to the point where it is making it hard to swallow. The sonogram today showed the baby is weighing in at 3 pounds 6 ounces. They have had her on pelvic rest...I am not completely sure what that entails but today they did a pelvic exam and the doctor said she had a blood clot on her cervix. She said they will be doing stress tests on the baby every week I guess and if the next two show the baby is under stress then they will be delivering early. One of their main concerns though is the babies size. How accurate are they at telling the babies size? I remember when I had my middle son they told me he would weigh no more then 8 1/2 piunds and that sonogram was done the day I had him. He weighed 11 pounds even. With my last son I was told he was weighing just under 5 pounds and again that was the day I deliever and he ended up weighing 7 pounds even. So I do not put a whole lot of faith in the weight estimates on them. Plus I told my daughter if she can manage to make it the six weeks she is supposed to I read that the baby will add an ounce everyday for the last six weeks so that would mean about 42 ounces. That would be another 2 pounds 10 ounces bringing her weight up to six pounds which would be on the smaller side but still normal. So really just looking for some reassurance that it is not as bad as the doctor is making it seem.

I had a sonogram just a few days before I had Chloe, and they said she was almost 9lbs. She was actually 6lbs 11oz at birth. So, I don't put a lot of stock in their guesses. ;)

I know it all seems super scary, but hopefully it's not as bad as what it appears. I was on pelvic rest for the majority of my pregnancy. That basically meant no heavy lifting and no intercourse. They made it all sound super scary for me, but I think they just want to stress that it COULD be serious if you don't take the precautions that they recommend.

I think it depends on the doctors experience. When I was preggers with my middle child, I had an exam to check my dilation and he said that she was gonna weigh 10 lbs and when I delivered her two days later, she weighed in at 9.5 lbs.

I had a sonogram the day before my DD was born. They estimated about 6-1/2 lbs which made them feel better because she was going to be born at 34 weeks. My water broke early. She was born at a little over 6 lbs.

If she still has terrible acid reflux, have her take Zantac. If you have a Sam's Club membership, they have a generic that is very affordable. It saved my sleep during pregnancy, and because I had to buy 2 bottles (and it was still super inexpensive) I mailed one to Meeegan and it saved her too.

My doctors have always been off on guessing. My first was supposed to be 8 or 9 lbs, but was 7lb 5oz. I don't remember what they guessed for my daughter because I didn't really care. She cooked a week longer than DS and was 7lb 10oz.

Both of my SILs on my side have had 5 lb babies being full term (but not yet 40 weeks) and they were both healthy enough to go home right away.

The day I had my first they did a soon and said 7 even and she was 6 even. My middle I didn't have a sono within a few weeks of having him but my dr predicted around the same as my daughter and he was....6 even exactly the same size.

My third I was having weekly sonograms because I was having a hard time controlling my sugars. They did a growth check a week before he came and said 5 lbs, 15 oz. They say they put on half a lb a week. He was born a week later weighing 6 lbs, 6 oz. So they were spot on with him.

I'm told it depends on the sonographer and how good the equipment is.

With my son, they were pretty accurate with his weight.

I lived on Tums for at least the last month or two. I got instant relief. If she's eating anything spicy, or stuff like pizza/spaghetti sauce, that could be triggering some of that acid reflux. I think onions can create acid reflux also.

I was on bed rest for the last month, and, to my doctor, that meant laying on my left side with my legs propped up. I was not allowed to do anything, not even go to church or do laundry. All I did was watch TV and read; I was allowed to be up for 15 minutes at each meal and for showering. I was so bored that laundry even looked fun! My doctor was conservative and didn't want my BP to even have a chance to spike. Have your daughter check with her doctor to see exactly what he/she means by pelvic rest.

A few hours before I had my girls they told me one would weigh about 6 lbs and one was still only weighing about 2 lbs. They were 4 lbs 14 oz and 3 lb 14 oz. I had them at 34 weeks, and they were perfectly healthy. They let them come home 3 days later, even though when I brought them home they weighed 4 lb 6 oz and 3 lb 9 oz. So like some have said, they can be wrong. Hope it's not as serious as it sounds and the little one stays safe!! I can't believe it's been 34 weeks already!! (hugs)

When I was pregnant with my twins, they thought they would both be over 7 pounds each. They were actually 6.5 and 6.15 pounds. They were born about 24 hours after that prediction too. With all three of my kids, they were decently close. I think it is still pretty hard to be accurate.

They told us Leia would be about 2lb 10, she was 3lb 10.5oz when she was born at 33 weeks but she was healthier than any of the boys had been hugs Crystal xx

My OB/GYN always told me that the weight estimates from the ultrasounds could off by approximately 1lb in either direction. I had some preterm labor at 33 wks with my youngest and the US they did at the hospital estimated that he was already well over 5lbs. Based on the fact that I measured 1-2 weeks ahead my entire pregnancy my OB/GYN said he would for sure be my biggest baby (my girls were 8lbs 3oz and 7lbs 5.5oz) if I went full term. They stopped my contractions, I did one weekend of bed rest and then ended up being induced one week before my due date and he only weighed 6lbs. 6oz and was actually my smallest baby! So not only was the US estimate probably off but so was my OB/GYN! So I wouldn't put too much stock in their estimates, if she can make it to 37 weeks or so (what they consider full term) I think baby would be fine.

All of the sonograms I had were completely wrong with each of my kids. I was told Troy was 5lbs the day of his birth he was 7lbs 12oz. With Rachel they told me she was 10 lbs easy. She was an even 8lbs. With Lilly they said 12-13lbs. She was 9lbs 10oz.

I had a blood clot with Lilly that opened when I was 34 weeks with her. That was not fun. It scared the crap out of me. I woke up & there was blood everywhere. I ended up being monitored more closely after we discovered that. I also had the stress tests twice a week until I delivered her and was told if she was in distress that we would be having her early.

I think like everyone else has said that it just depends. My twins were born at 30 weeks and we had several ultrasounds leading up to their delivery. They predicted about 3 lbs. each and they were born at 2 lbs 8 oz and 3 lbs 5 oz. Not too far off, really. It looks like she's looking at a good weight for the baby, though. And, also, I'd be more concerned about lung function than weight anyway. Both of my twins came home at just over 4 lbs.
