Are you a fan? Do you love the thunder & rain included in a big storm? Do you love to sit outside in them? Are your kids that way, too?

In the summer I love a good thunderstorm coming over the mountains when we're at our place on the lake. We have a huge screened in porch and we love to sit there and watch. The mountains provide a cool show during most storms - the clouds and wind change and the storm bouncing off the mountains.

LOVE them! One of my big wishes is to see a tornado funnel IRL. I've lived in the Midwest my whole life and tornadoes don't scare me, but it seems like the big ones always happen in the middle of the night.

The only thing I DON"T like about storms is that they equate to muddy dogs.

I do love to listen and watch them. But, I am not a fan of driving in them. Nor am I a fan of running in them (which happened to me while I was training for my 1/2 marathon). I'm always afraid that lightning will strike down right on me.

I am terrified of Thunder!!!!! but love lightening (even though I know that's the danger part) and rain (go figure). I can feel a Thunderstorm coming, my knees will lock about 15 minutes or so before the first rumble can be heard. I used to work at an amusement park, so when it rained, we had to shut the rides down, and we had to do it even more quickly if there was thunder and lightening..... I was first on the radio response every time to get someone out to me to get me.... because I knew it was coming before it came I was always able to prepare and get things shut down, but we couldn't just leave our post so I always was stuck waiting for help to get me out of the rain.... no fun trying to walk (and hurry) when you can't bend your knees.....LOL

When I was a kid in Houston, I loved to sit under the patio and watch thunderstorms. As I got older, I enjoyed snuggling under a blanket with a good book while listening to the rain come down.

But living in Oklahoma has changed some of that. If it's not a severe weather storm, then fine...I still enjoy watching the rain and everything. But the last Moore tornado literally passed right my house...it was rotating but didn't drop down until it was about a mile and a half away. So if there's a chance of severe weather then we are pretty much glued to the TV watching the weather report, and listening for the sirens.

My 10 year old wanted to be a storm chaser...and then we wound up being stuck in our storm shelter for a good 4+ hours listening to the wind howl and hail bang onto the top of the shelter. She still wants to be a storm chaser, but if it's raining at night (be it a big storm or just slow drizzly rain), she winds up sleeping in my room.
That kind of reaction seems pretty common in our area. Plaza Towers and Briarwood are just a few miles away, in the same school district, and that has really stuck in everyone's minds. If there's a thunderstorm, then parents are picking their kids up from school early (and it's considered an excused absence). Some kids (older ones, not just the little ones) are crying in the classrooms. It's understandable but sad to see. Thankfully a bond issue just passed to build storm shelters in every school in our district that doesn't already have one...they are supposed to get on those pretty quickly. I think everyone will breathe a little easier once they are in.

I absolutely love thunderstorms. I love the way they sound on the roof, I love booms of thunder and cracks of lightning. I like counting one mississippi, two mississippi to see how far away the storm is. I especially love watching them roll in with gusts of wind and seeing the big towering clouds. We live close to a park with a lightning alarm (there's a pool there), so I even feel safe standing outside in the downpour and letting the kids run in it until we hear the alarm.

One of the saddest things was when we were considering moving to CA, I honestly thought twice about the lack of rain. It's my muse, a good excuse to cancel busy plans and cozy up with a crafty project, book or movie. Nice to fall asleep to (sometimes! ). It's a regular occurrence in Florida. I'm also glad that when a storm will be a problem, we have a lot of advance warning for hurricanes. I would be bummed to live where tornadoes occur because I am the type who probably wouldn't enjoy it if I had to worry 'what if'.

Depends what I'm doing. They have a tendency to strike right around school pick up time or when I'm commuting home from work - not fun.

In fact, there's one brewing right now and its half an hour to school bell time....

I love thunderstorms! Especially the monsoons in southern AZ!

Here storms are a bigger deal because of all of the trees and powerlines, so while the storms are still beautiful and exhilarating, it's easy to get worried about how long the power will be out.

I'm always thankful when it rain, makes the air a bit cooler. But when my daughter started to become afraid of thunder, then it makes my job as a mom hard.
