My teen-age GD has a MAC computer. I'm thinking about getting her setup with PSE. I have an old copy of PSE 9 that I got for free with my tablet and never used. I'll have to find her a bunch of free kits and stuff to load to start with. I don't want to buy her any kits until we know if she is going to enjoy it and will use it. When searching for kits, I need to search for MAC OS stuff, right? Also, I've always used photoshop so not familiar with PSE, are all brushes, styles, etc compatible with both? Is PSE 9 too outdated? Should I even bother with that one?

I'm thinking this might be a good thing for her as she has a lot of emotional problems and struggles and I think that mixed media art journaling might be therapeutic for her. She also like to write so journaling might be good for her too. We used to hang out and paper scrap together but I haven't been doing that for a few yrs so maybe she might want to come over to the other side and try digi.

Any thoughts or ideas are welcome.
 
I believe most PS brushes will work in PSE...

I would venture to say version 9 is outdated, but since she's never scrapped before and won't know the difference it will work just fine. No sense spending money on a newer version until you know she'll like it...

Sound like a fun project to do together!
 
I can't think of any scrap kits that would need to be Mac OS specific. Any .psd, .png, .jpg, or .tif files will work with either Mac or PC. And, any brushes should be compatible with PSE. I know the way styles work in PSE has changed over time, and I'm not sure how they work in PSE 9, but theoretically, you can use them. I would think that version is pretty outdated, but would be fine for her to start with. Then buy a newer version if she wants to keep with it.
 
How old is she? I tried to get my daughter into scrapping but she never was all that interested. Didn't like sitting still for that long or something, lol! That will be a fun time for you two to spend together!
 
I think you can download a free trial of PSE. That might be a way to get started. Things change in different versions of PSE some, it might be frustrating to change versions... But very cool way to spend time together! Hope she enjoys it!

Good to know about there being no problem with either windows or IOS. I figured PSE9 would be pretty outdated but if I load it and she tries it out for a few weeks and enjoys it then I will upgrade it for her. That'll be her Easter present. I hope she gets into it b/c I'd love to see her do art journal pages. She'd rock that, she is so creative. I'm excited to talk to her today about it. Thx ladies for all your help.
 
Chatted with her about it, she's really excited so I'm getting her a newer copy of PSE and will go looking for some freebies to get her started. She'll look at some vids on Youtube and then next weekend we'll sit down for a few hours and I'll get her started. Yay.
