Printing photobooks tips?

I am ready to print my December Daily from last year. I printed some of my layouts previously in a Shutterfly 8x8 book, but the edges were badly cut off due to bleed. What do you all do? Add a black or white border around all the edges of your files before uploading? Make the photos smaller within the Shutterfly software? Is there something obvious I'm missing? Thanks in advance!

I don't use Shutterfly, but have found the same issue with all of the other retailers that sell books, I made a PS action that adds about a ⅓" white border around all of my pages when I save them.

Perpetual struggle for me. I've tried making actions to fix the problem but apparently I'm not good at making actions-it never seems to work fluidly for me. It seems the easiest thing to do is at the beginning of the project resize all the templates down and add a white/black border?

I plan for that as I'm scrapping rather than correcting it later. As I'm scrapping a layout, I make sure that everything I wouldn't want cut off is at least 1/3 of an inch from the edge.

For dealing with it after the fact, a border is probably your best bet. I've seen people do black or white for consistency or use a color similar to the background so it blends in better.
