Prepaid Cell Phones

Does anyone own one and/or could recommend one? My aunt was put in a nursing home for physical therapy and they are taking it week by week to see if/when she can come home but they don't have phones there and thought it would be a great idea to get her a prepaid cell phone. Are the TracPhones good or should I look into others? HELP!

I have a t mobile one. It's been great! Before that we did AT&T. and I didn't like it as well.

I have a prepaid cell phone with Virgin Mobile. They carry them at Best Buy and Target, etc. I've always been happy with it. I've been with them for 4 years. I don't talk much on the cell phone, so I just get a $20 "top-up" card every 3 months (that is required to keep the service active) and I'm set. They have cheapy $10 phones and more full featured phones. You can see their choices online on the best buy website or even Virgin Mobile's site.

I have exactly what Julie has and it works fine (though you might want to check on whether she can use a cell phone -- some medical places don't let you as it can interfere with their electronics).

We talked to the place before she was put there and they told us that she would have to get a TracPhone because there were no phones there and that they would help her dial, etc. Maybe TracPhone is the most popular since they mentioned that brand. I would assume a TracPhone is like all other prepaid phones as far as how they work.

I use Verizon pre-paid. TracPhone is just what someone people think all pre-paid phones are. If you buy one from the same company that whoever she talks to most uses, it will save you money. I really like my Verizon one.

we have a tmobile one and it's great. the prepaid deals are super cheap and it's been perfect for us. and we even got our phone free when we signed up for it online!

That's all we use. We bought a Razr for DH using the Alltel service (which is the only cell service available here) and we love it. We pay $35 a month for 1000 minutes (and unlimited minutes to one phone number) and that's all we really need.

For our son, we bought him a Razr using Alltel and he pays $44 a month (he has unlimited texting on it) and it's been awesome. We just renew each month when it's time (usually the 16th).

The thing I love about them is they don't require a security deposit - it's strictly pay and use.

I think with tmobile, you can pay $100 for 1000 minutes that last a whole year (of course you can always add more). Short cheaper "plans" only last a few months. but minutes always carry over when you add more!

I use Tracfone and really like it.. I looked into a couple others and this seemed the easiest and cheepest for what I needed. I liked that with Tracfone you can purchase a whole year at a time.

I like prepaid through cingular. Not to expensive and for about 60 dollars a month you can get like 300 minutes and unlimted nights/weekend plus texting if you want it. It recharges every month and whatever minutes you have left rollover to the next month.

Another thing you might look into is lifeline service. You can get a free phone through that service if you meet certain requirements with 68 minutes a month in most instances and if you need more time you buy tracfone cards to recharge it. Ill look for the link and post it...

I checked and if it is in Pennsylvania you get 42 minutes for free if you are eligible for the services. You didnt say what the situation is with your aunt but if she is low income she should qualify. here is the link

i have a Net10 phone. i think the minutes are the cheapest deals, like .10 cents. we buy a 300 minute card and sometimes (lol) it will last us a month. but lately we've been talking more and i think i bought minutes 3 times in the last month/month and a half, lol. we may get a regular cell phone too and just have Chad take the Net10 with him when he rides his motorcycle, because i'm paranoid, lol.

My daughter has boost, she gets the unlimited plan for $50 a month. Which is good for because she's always on it, that includes 2way, text and calling.

WOW! That's an amazing deal!! We ended up getting my aunt a TracPhone and she is doing very well with it. It's good enough for her since she isn't doing that much calling. Just when she gets lonely or bored she calls for a few minutes to say hi. But this is good to know for our future cell phone purchases!
