Some of you might remember my post from August about my mom who was in the process of seeing if she was a candidate for a cochlear for her deaf ear of 36 years?

Well... today is the day... the day of the surgery. She is a bundle of nerves and apprehension.... not so much on the surgery, but the recovery of it... those memories of 36 years ago, from her last surgery and the failure of it, is still very fresh in her memories and she is terrified that this - her last resort - will fail, or worse, cause a serious infection that will travel to her left ear (where she still a tiny amount of hearing and can get by with a super powerful hearing aid) and she will loose that hearing and live to regret this decision. It will be a month before they can turn on the cochlear and see if it will work... and then months to see if her brain can be "retrained" to hear on that side... her greatest wish would be hear enough that she could do away with the aid on her left.

If you would, could you please send a prayer... or if you don't pray, positive thoughts for my mama today?... I would so appreciate it! thank you!!

Oh, I sure hope that this is going to help your mama! Will definitely send some prayers. Hugs to you and your mama!

Oh baby, definitely sending prayers and well wishes your Momma's way. And prayers for you as well because I can tell by your post that you are concerned and stressed as well. Keep us posted! Hugs!

Sending lots of positive thoughts! I hope she gets the outcome she's dreaming of and that the month(s) of waiting aren't too stressful for both of you.

thank you, ladies... so, so much!! She is still in surgery.... and the doctor told my step dad that he is very confident that she will be able to hear to understand in a few months... I hope that is true! :hugs:

ETA: Just heard from my step dad...

"All went well, Nancy is now in recovery, will be there about 1hr, then back to her room where I will be able to see her. Dr Friedland turned on the CI and got a good response from her hearing nerves. YAA! Stitches out next Wednesday."

I'm crying tears of joy... thank you so much for your prayers and PTs... please keep my mama in your thoughts and we hope that recovery goes smoothly...

So excited for your family that the surgery went well. Sending prayers for a speedy recovery. My mom remembered praying for your mom before and is doing so again. :)
