power bills

I am curious (if you dont mind answering) how much your average power bill runs a month. Ours was running near 180 a month but the last two or three months it was up to 300. Stupid power company increased the bills by like 30% and is talking about another increase in the last month or two but it has to be approved and Im hoping the agency that handles that will deny their increase request. Totally blows my budget when the power bill goes up that high but luckily we will be cooling off enough this month we can turn the air off pretty much all day and we hardly ever run the heat so that will really help. So what is your average bill a month?

We pay our electric through a budgeting plan. Right now, it's $99/mo. That will go through January (I think.). Then, it'll go up to about $125. Our gas bill is at $63/mo right now, in January, it'll go down to around $49.

wowww Leila!! I want your power bill LOL. I think I remember hearing on the news that our power company is one of the highest in the area. Our bill is like 40 dollars a month with absolutely no power usage. Just the customer fees and crap they charge every month

Our highest bill over the summer was right at 400..but we live in the South, 2500 sq. ft 2 story house and we have separate AC units for downstairs and upstairs. After that bill though I really started watching my power usage and the past couple of months it's been back down to about average for us in summer..around 280 a month..in winter months it's way down to about 180 b/c we use mostly our gas logs to heat the downstairs.

I think our highest this summer was $330 but that was before the new ac. But then in the winter it is like $78. LOL! We have a gas furnace and appliances and our gas bill in the summer is about $40 and up to $100 in the winter.

Wow! Our hightest this summer was $190 & I thought that was bad! We too live in the south in a large 2-story house. But, we also do not use the upstairs except for company. That's probably the huge difference. Our bill averages about 140. And, we don't have any gas.

electric is anywhere from $200-$300 a month in the summer. Our thermostat is in the hallway in the top floor of our house so the a/c runs CONSTANTLY. Summer gas bills are around $20.

Winter is reversed. We have about $40 electric bills and $200 gas bills.

sore spot for me..lol

Summer our power bill is about 250-400 depends on the month lol but in the winter it's down to about $50-60

in summer our gas is around 20-25 dollars and in winter it goes up to about 200ish

I normally get a 1-2 month repreive with both kinda cheap in Oct/Nov since the AC nor the heat will run which is nice

our company is Progress Energy which is in Florida and the Carolinas I believe. They really suck cause I looked at our bill and it has a rate increase I think because it has a spot on there for rate adjustment

Well, I do live in Wisconsin. It's winter almost all year here. LOL! Honestly, I think our bill would be higher if we were in an outside unit, but our townhouse has one on one side and two on the other, so we're well insulated. We do run our air a LOT since I'm often hot, even in winter, but having the other units around us helps more than you can imagine!

I'm trying to recall what our elec/gas bill as in Texas. They were combined, and I think it averaged around $250/mo or so for a 2400 sq ft house.

Oh, our current place is 2150 sq ft on three floors (including finished basement).

The last few months have been high $500 and then $400. I'm hoping it will be less for this month. I've only used the AC during the day, and hoping not to be using it at all now that it's cooling down a bit. When it's over 100 degrees in the day though I have to run it.

Normally, it's about $150. My gas bill is higher in the winter and was about $30 last month.

Our house is about 1900 sq ft and we average 140-150/month. Slightly lower in the winter, slightly higher in the summer... but not a huge difference because like deb, we don't have gas... so everything is electric. And I'm in texas, where it's hot a lot, all the time... so how come some of yours are so high? do you keep your house at like 65 degrees? :)

ETA: I am just teasin' about the 65 you know... :) I am sure there are many factors... size of house, how many floors, where you live, etc. etc. But I still feel bad for those that are really high!

I keep mine 75-77 degrees...not remotely cool at all. We have 1 large unit for a somewhat split level house (basement/ bedroom/bath downstairs) (middle level living room, kitchen, wash/mud room, dining room) (5 bedrooms upstairs). It runs a lot to keep the upstairs cool I think hence the higher price.

Our small town actually owns the only utility company here - so we get one bill for electric, gas, and water. Before moving last month, our level pay plan was $309 a month. Now that that kids and I have moved into a much smaller place, I'm really anxious to see what our first utility bill will be on the 1st. Shouldn't be too high since we're in a two bedroom apartment, but they've really raised their rates, so I'm a little nervous.

In the summer my bills average 250-300, but I live in the Arizona desert so the A/C runs almost all the time. In the winter, it drops to about 120 bucks or so. We don't have gas so that is for everything in our house. It is just how it is here in AZ, high bills in the summer, low in the winter.

We have a 1200 sq ft split-level home, and are ALL electric. The bill bounces between $125 or so in the beginning of fall and end of spring (when it's warm enough for no heat, but not hot enough for AC), up to $250 or so in the middle of summer/winter. We keep the thermostat set to 71 or 72 pretty much all year round. That should go down a little bit in a few months when Jordan's brother moves out (please for the love, let him move out soon) cuz it's 1 less person using hot water, and we don't usually heat that room in the winter too much (we close the vents).

Wow, I didn't realize our bill was so low. Ours usually ranges from $80-$160 or so. That's for all our utilities - electric, gas and water. It's higher in the colder months from running the heat. We just had AC installed at the beginning of this summer but since I wasn't here all summer, I'm not sure how much that will effect our bill. But it helps that we don't usually get too much hotter than high 80s, low 90s in the summer so I figure at worst it will just make our bill about the same year round.

Well, if it makes you feel any better, our power bill here (Arizona) in the summer runs $500+. The air conditioners run round the clock!

Yeah, this is a sore subject for me too. We had a $560 bill this summer!!! I'm totally serious. And the month after that it was like mid $400s. Our house is only like 1800 sq. ft., but it's old with plaster walls on the inside and block construction (basically no insulation in the outer walls). We also run the generator for our boat, were powering our hot tub, and were powering a commercial ice machine.

So I freaked out about those bills pretty big time. We cut off the hot tub ('cause who really needs to use one in the summer in the Florida heat) and turned off the ice machine ('cause snapper season is over and that's the main thing hubby needed the ice for). We also recently discovered our AC was running extremely inefficiently. We've gotten that fixed this past week.

Our latest bill was like $370, so definitely lower than the previous, and that was before we had all the AC work done. I'm hoping with the AC running more efficiently and running less (since it will hopefully not be so hot now) our bill will return to a reasonable amount.

But I heard that the power company upped everyone's bill a great deal. We're on Gulf Power (part of Southern Company). Who are you on down there? eta - oh nevermind, I just saw that.

this house is tiny so our summer bill with the central air on is around 150 but i have seen it up to 200. in the winter, the electric goes down with the air off, but then the gas goes up. usually about the same amount, but it really depends on how cold it is. last winter was horrible, with several below 0 days (when my old furnace quit). now that we have a brand new furnace i hope it'll be more efficient. can't wait to use it, lol. right now is the time i love; its cool enough to shut off the air and open windows but not cold enough to use the furnace. perfect!

Our bill used to be only $35-$40! But the past few months it's gone up to $85!!!!
I'm so ticked off that it's more than doubled!!!! Argh!

luckily we don't have an electric water heater- ours runs off the furnace... but unfortunately we have a high oil bill!

We're on the average payment plan for our electric now which is based on your last 12mo of usage, so we are only paying around $125-135/mo right now. Our actual bill in the summer is around $200-250 and then in the winter it goes down to $75-85. I would much rather pay the average payment amount all year round than those huge bills in the summer when we run the A/C nonstop! Our house is fairly small though, it's a 3BR ranch (1,066 SF) with no basement so we don't have a huge space to heat/cool!

We also have a natural gas bill and we haven't put it on the average payment yet, but we may end up doing so this winter if rates increase too much here. Our gas bill runs around $35 in the summer months, $50-75 in the spring and fall and then around $100-150 in December, January & February when it's the coldest here.

I'll be very quiet and not tell you all that up here, at least where I live, I pay maybe $60 every 2 months on our equal payment plan for Hydro (power). We get billed every two months.

We are on a regular payment plan and it just doubled from $53 a month to $98 a month. Still I guess that's not bad for our 3-bedroom apartment, considering we had the air conditioning running from May to September.

Electricity :

Texas.
HOT. Summer (May through end of October) = 300+
Winter. Cold. = 140

Gas:
Summer $28
Winter 200

We keep our house at 74 in the day and 69 at night year round. We have our playroom/spare bedroom set at 78 degrees unless someone is spending the night. I turn off every light that I see left on and I try to unplug unnecessary things (cell phone chargers not charging) but it still is high here.

Ours is averaged out...I think it's like 130 a month. Before it was averaged out we were spending close to 200/mo in warm weather, but only about 10/mo in cold months.

My house is 2600 sq ft...I might put it at 78 if the boys are at home and I'm at work...sometimes we don't turn it on till we get home from work, and then we put it at 76, and we've only run it all night long a couple of times this year. I just live in California...who knows why it's so high. I've asked them to come out several times and check my meter. They say they have. I have friends who run theirs more than I do and theirs is less...and my ac unit is about 5 years old. I think I'm just in an area that they charge more.

We pay about 30 cents a kWh when you add up all the various charges, plus $10 for a base charge, plus some sort of Power Cost Adjustment that varies from $50-70 each bill. Our total cost bounces from $170-250,the highest useage being February, August & December, the lowest in May, June & October. We have an all electric 1800sq ft ranch style home. I keep it at about 76-78 in summer and 70ish in winter.

About $200 but only because we are on averaged billing. Normally, it runs close to $400 during summer! And no, I don't keep it at 65...lol. We keep it at around 78 during the day and lower it when we go to bed. The rates have just gone up a ton the last few years.

I've only read through page 2 but I'm almost embarrassed to post what we pay. We live in Western PA in a 1 story house with a fully finished basement, we have just a little over 2000 sq ft. We pay $83 dollars every month for electric and $103 every month for gas. They are both budgeted and I do think they are based on not only our usage but also our family size and income. We have Penn Elect for electric and Dominion Peoples for gas.

We don't have central A/C but we do have 4 window units that run almost every day in the summer (we still run ours but we have turned the kid's ones off) and of course our lights and dryer are electric. Our furnace, hot water heater and stove are gas.

We are in Arizona and pay about $300 for a summer bill and $100 for a winter bill. Be we live in a very small house. We keep it at 76-78 all day and night. Our gas bill is about $24 a month year round(it is only our water heater and stove that are gas).

Our highest bill (gas and electric) during the summer was 96.79, our highest during the winter (gas and electric) was 175.
We live in Illinois if that says anything. We don't keep the air very high and turn the thermostat off during the day since we aren't there and during the night while we sleep, except we keep the air on during the night when we sleep.

Our electric bill is around $60, except for July & August with the air on its around $80.

Our gas in the summer is around $25, but goes up to around $150 for November - February
