Pottery?

Does anyone here do pottery?

I signed up for a class in october in my town and I have to tell you I am REALLY enjoying it. I haven't attempted the wheel yet (a little nervous that i will just not be very good haha). I was saying to my sister that it is really nice to have a hobby again that isn't work related. I LOVE my job and I love scrapbooking but it is nice to go and escape to do something that isn't related to what I do for my job :)

Anyways was just curious if anyone else here does pottery.. or has in the past :)
 
I did. From 6 to 14 years old I went to art classes (it was called "people's school of art" in Communist times). We did all sorts of stuff, but pottery - done once a month - was deffo my favourite. So much that I seriously contemplated studying it for secondary school. Reason prevailed though and I chose differently. I still love doing manual art work though. Very satisfying.
 
Yes! I did a couple semesters of hand- building pottery classes when I was in college. I never was interested in wheel... It seemed so hard!
 
A - Wow!! That is SO cool! Lily is in an art class with this same teacher and it is def her fav thing to do!

The teacher is hoping that they can get an arts council set up so that instead of the classes being run through our district town office they can be through the arts council and then we can go in on a more frequent basis. Right now we can only go once a week during class times which makes it hard!

Misty - I was worried that people would get annoyed with my over-pinning <3

Brook! Awesome! I guess that is what I am doing now? The slab pottery type stuff?

Yes! Slab, coil, and pinch pots. I really enjoyed it. I especially loved glazing things and seeing them transform after being fired in the kiln. It's a super fun hobby, but I think I would have liked it more if I had my own kiln at home.
 
I think i would be too scared of something going wrong and burning down my house if i had a kiln :O
 
Well, you don't have to keep it IN your house. A garage or covered patio would be the best place. They sell small ones... It's really no different than an oven. ;)
