Portable External Hard Drive OOPSEY

Sweet Shoppe SugarBabe
I was so excited to buy a portable external hard drive that I can take with me when I'm not at my computer desk or even at home. :). It has 5 TB and I was so excited to copy my scrapbook files to it to have on the go! I made the mistake of dragging my whole scrapbook folder over to copy. I didn't realize that I had 2.82 TB of files! :D. It said it would take 3 days to transfer! I guess I should have just transferred a few files at a time. :). Live and learn! I am so excited to have it though!

I usually take mine to Best Buy (usually costs $50.00) and let them do the data transfer because it is so large -- it is incredible how quickly our stash grows when we digitally create. Can you imagine what an actual scrap craft room would look like if all our digital kits were tangible stuff?

Awesome purchase! Three days isn't too bad. When I went to a cloud, it took nine days and I only had about 1TB. It was probably my internet speed, though.

I can remember just starting digi scrapping and how long it took to download and upload. Now, it's just seconds and I get aggravated when it goes slower than that. I have done the same thing, though, and tried to move a bunch of files. I don't like to wait!

Ohh I know that struggle hahaha I made the same mistake when I first began with a portable drive. Unfortunally I almost lost all my files from when I took my huge digi scrap break. All the kits and templates from my previous creative teams :( and the stuff I bought so I had to start all over again. Please be carefull with yours Evelyn!!

Oops ... I'm always afraid I'm going to lose files if I try to transfer too many at a time. You're a brave woman. I hope all the files transfer safely.

That is a great idea! I never knew you could do that. I will remember that in the future!
I had a scrap room in the house we had before our move to Ashland City. It was full of so much scrapbooking supplies. I kept a little bit of it but gave the majority of it away as I knew we would not have as much room in the house we are in now. I love digital scrapbooking because I can store things in a nice neat external hard drive and have no little bits of paper to pick up!

Lynn, I also found out that I needed to change a few setting in my battery settings to make sure the transfer would still be active when my monitor went to sleep. I didn't know this the first transfer day or it may have gone a little faster. I always love to learn new tips and new information!

I hear you, girl! I don't like to wait either! I had no idea when I first set up the file to copy onto the portable external hard drive that it would take that long. I am so impatient to have then copied! Also, I had wanted to go to the Downton Abbey movie today but right now we have a plumber at our house fixing the water line that goes to the meter. There's a leak!:(

Thank you so much for the warning, Natascha! I am copying from my big external hard drive onto my portable hard drive so I am hoping I don't have that issue. I also have a subscription to Back Blaze which was such a blessing when my external hard drive crashed!

Thank you so much! I do hope I don't lose files in the transfer process. I do have a subscription to Back Blaze if I do lose files and I can download from there. I had to do that when my original hard drive crashed. :(

Nooooo! That's a big boo hiss boo from me! We moved into my Grandma's cottage in Feb 2024 and we have had to have the plumbers here multiple times. I think we've almost got it fixed  but lordy, don't they take their time and then when they talk to you about the plumbing issue, you try to understand their grunted discourse.

Ha!Ha! One thing I did understand was when I had to pay the bill! He did a great job but man was it expensive! :(. I am so sorry you have had so many plumbing problems! I really feel for you because they are such a headache and usually an expensive headache!

Been there! I have to remind myself to transfer a little bit at a time. My hard drives aren't that big though.

I'm kicking myself for not moving more from my old "photos" hard drive to my new "assorted" hard drive because the cords are finally going and I didn't have the photos I wanted moved for Summer Scrap-a-thon. (They're photos I haven't touched since 2022 and are printed on my wall but I had an idea for them.)

Can you access your photos from the Cloud or maybe find replacement cords, on Amazon or Ebay, for your old hard drive so you can transfer them? I hope you find a way to save them! Photos are priceless!

We can and eventually will but trying to get my husband and I in the same room to check my hard drive is a little hard right now. I'm not stressing too much but thank you for your concern. I lost almost all of 2009 in a hard drive crash so I am very careful.

Oh man, that would drive me nuts. I’m so impatient! Yay about the new EDH though!

It is driving me crazy! It is taking sooooo long! I started to transfer the files Wednesday night. Of course, it has to copy all the files and then starts to transfer them. It still has about 1 TB to still transfer. tick....tick...tick....time drags on!

Yay! I am about ready for a 2nd back up EHD. I have 4 total, 2 for photos and 2 for downloads. But I am thinking my 2nd download one needs to be updated! It is quite smaller, and I have to be very selective with what goes onto it.

Where did you get yours? Always looking for a deal (I need to buy one for a couple of the girls too!)

Wow 4 days! I'm sure my stash would be just the same- so good tips if I ever transfer!

Do you scrap on a laptop when you're on the go or not at home? I've debated getting one for travelling & such, but I just love my 3 monitor setup on my desktop! lol

I got mine at Walmart. It was cheaper there than on the Seagate website. It was $110.00 normally $160.00 It is 5 TB and is portable so I can take it with me in the car etc.

Wow! That is fantastic that you have three monitors, Amie! I scrapped on my desktop Mac until I started going to my daughter's house to care for her baby girl. It was then that we bought a MacBook Air laptop. I now use my laptop solely as I was having some issues with my desktop. I love that I can scrap in the car when my husband is driving us to church or out on errands etc. It is so convenient. Now, with this portable external hard drive I can have my kits at my fingertips if I need something not available in my downloads folder.

I had three monitors for a short period of time. They were on a shelf above my desk and the shelf fell and one of the monitors was broken (it was one of the older monitors anyway). I got two new monitors when I got my new desktop some years ago now. I love scrapping with the extra space.

I did have a laptop for a while, but I kept it docked most of the time. I seem to get distracted when trying to scrap away from my desktop.

I'm thinking it'd be super convenient to take with me on all our travels and such, but not sure I can justify a laptop for myself when we have kids with expensive needs too! lol!

I LOVE 3 monitors- I can have my folders of supplies open on one, photoshop cc on my middle & then the other one I usually open the folder preview so I can add credits to metadata quickly. I also keep my calendar open on my 3rd screen so I can always see what's going on! lol I had 2 for a long time & then hubby brought a couple old ones from work home that they were getting rid of but are perfectly fine- so now I have 3 and he has 2 for when he works from home. We definitely have a monitor problem in this house! ;)

I love my 2 monitors even when I'm not scrapping! Especially when I'm updating my financial spreadsheets where I have to make sure numbers match on several spreadsheets (I'm a spreadsheet nerd!).

For scrapping, PSP or Affinity on left monitor. Picasa on right monitor along with a tracking spreadsheet. Would love to have a third but no desk space available. So I got the largest width that I could the last time I updated monitors when an older one went bad. I bought 2 of the same model instead of having an older monitor and a newer one in the same brand. Colors just weren't ever the same on them no matter how much tweaking I did. With 2 of the same model bought at the same time, there is no color difference.

I have two that are not the same brand and I cannot get the color right on one of them. I only use Photoshop on the other one. (We bought a second one a year after the first for budgetary reasons.) One day I'll have two the same but for now, I mostly use it for expediting cross-posting layouts or data tracking.

I noticed the color differences because I had the same photo as my background on both monitors.

I do too. It's a really special photo of the Milky Way from the first time I ever photographed the galactic core. The colors do not match but I just keep one screen covered and it's fine-ish

Mine is of my previous 2 Havanese that have been gone since 2015. Both of them are looking at me and I can actually see the eyes on Pepper (he was totally black). It is my favorite photo of the 2 of them.
