I am a very casual pinner, only do it occasionally and normally just repinning things friends have already pinned. Well, yesterday I pinned a tattoo of Phoenix. So far I have gotten over 100 repins of it, not to mention all the likes and comments. I don't know any of these people. A couple of hours ago, I pinned another tattoo and it's already up to 50 repins. What happened? Why is my tattoo board so popular now?
 
I just put "tattoo" into the Pinterest search box and all of images have lots of repins ... it might just be that it's popular topic on there! .... and I just peaked at your pins and those tattoos are pretty cool! :)
 
I think Pinterest has a recent pinned section on their home page (the same page you'd get if you weren't signed in yet). So I think maybe your pin will show up there for a second or so, and in that time - people will like it and/or repin it - and when it gets popular, then it will get added to the "popular" area (wherever that is). I've had some scrap pages do that, and I was shocked by how many repins it got!

That's always how I imagined it anyways :)
 
If you ever click on the Everything tab at the top, you can see stuff that people you don't follow pin. Someone you don't know must have seen your pin on there - and then because it kept getting pinned again it was keeping it at the top of that page so anyone looking at the main page was seeing it plus all the people that follow those that pinned. Shows you have wonderful taste!
 
I had that happen with a quote I put up one time - it got 1400 pins in a day. So it's just random - something catches on and goes viral - right time, right place kind of thing. It's fun though! :)
 
Lots of people are now following my tattoo board. I feel all sorts of pressure to find good tattoos now. lol
 
I read that Pinterest is actually adding a tattoo category because it has been such a popular topic!
 
I"ve been surprised with how many 'followers' I have too. Can't think that my stuff (mostly food & things to do with kids) are really that interesting!
 
Yep, my pins were showing up in the new tattoo board, I suspect that's how I got so many new followers. lol
