Do you have your ears pierced? How many times? How old were you when you got them done?

I was thinking about this today. I was 10 when I first got mine pierced. I got a second set of holes at age 17. My 3rd ones I got at 22. The third ones closed up at one point. Around October I had them re-pierced but the left ear was messed up and I had to remove it. So, I have 2.5 sets.

My DD, Caitrin got her ears pierced the day before she turned 5. Exactly 5 years ago. Today she got her second set of holes. We took the kids to Chuck E Cheese to celebrate her birthday and we were reminiscing about how the first time we took them to Chuck E Cheese was the day before Caitrin's 5th birthday. She remembered that she had gotten her ears pierced that day and started asking if she could get them done again. I left it up to Sean who said he couldn't see any reason why not. She takes good care of her ears/earrings so we didn't see any reason not to let her get it done. She is super excited. I mean, dancing in the mall excited. She said when she turns 15 she wants to get one more set of holes. I told her that she'll probably be out of room after that and asked what she was going to ask for after that, a tattoo? She was quick to say no to that one and said she would stop at 3 holes and that she would never get anything pierced except her ears. Her dad was happy to hear that. She's a funny girl... :D
 
I had mine done when I was younger but I let them close up so got them repierced just before christmas last year (24 years old) with just plain silver studs in them most of the time
 
I have mine pierced. I only have one set of holes, I got them done at ayoung age, and was too chicken to do it any more when I got older lol! All my friends were getting them pierced again around jr high, but I couldn't do it.

When we had the girls, my first thought was to pierce their ears early, but dh said absolutely not. It wasn't long before I agreed with him :). They totally would have torn them out of each others ears, for sure!! We've decided to wait until they ask for them to be done. They have a few times, but not seriously - they always change thier minds, I think they're worried about it hurting.

My own are super sensitive. Most earrings make my ears swell up. I actually wore them same pair for years, then lost one, and went without for years. Now, I only wear them on rare occasions - I miss wearing them all the time. I should go get me some more!
 
I have two sets in my ears. My second set usually just has a pair of something small-ish and simple and my originals usually have some sort of hoops or danglers.
 
I was 12 when I got my ears pierced...in my early 20s when I got the second set. I was told under no circumstances would I be able to get my ears pierced a second time while I lived with my parents...i really still don't know what the big deal was and why my parents were so adamant about it. I was good about taking care of my first set...and I don't think it was until I was 16 or 17 that I even thought about getting the second holes, but parents can be funny sometimes.

DD got her ears pierced the first time when she was about 6. We think she had a serious allergy to the earrings we put in after she was done with her 8 weeks in the starter set, and she had a severe reaction. After that we couldn't talk her into letting us put in the gold earrings her aunt bought her. For her 11th birthday she decided she wanted to try again...she's had her starter earrings in for 3 months now...need to find those gold earrings so we can change them out. I think I need to dig through her keepsake box.
 
I got my ears first pierced when I was little- maybe 7 years old? And you know how they tell you to occasionally turn the earring back. Well, I took that too far and kept turning the back until I had screwed the back into my ear. It was painful and nasty and my mom removed my earrings and the holes closed up. Then when I turned 13 I got my ears re-pierced. I was much better with my earrings then. Then when I was about 30, I got a second set of holes. But in the last few years I've had trouble with my ears being sensitive to any metal. So, I haven't worn earrings for over a year. :(
 
For some reason, pierced ears were some kind of big deal to my parents, so I had to wait until I was 13 before I was allowed to get them pierced. My childhood BFF (and her mom!) had multiple ear piercings, and I wanted to get mine double pierced when I was in high school. My parents forbid it [*eyeroll*], so, of couse, I got them double pierced around my 18th birthday.

I have the worst time keeping pairs of earrings (one inevitably gets lost inside the house), so I usually have the same pair of silver hoops in my ears and never take them out. I haven't worn earrings in my second set in years.

DD does not have her ears pierced. When she expresses serious interest in doing so, I will let her.
 
I think I was about seven when I first got my ears pierced. My second set was when I was about 15 I guess. But now I only have one set left.
 
I was 10 when I got my ears pierced. I only have one set, and I like it that way. I'm not a pin cushion, people! LOL. I'm going to make my dd wait till she's 10 as well. Gives her something to look forward to.
 
I was really young the first time...4 or 5. But I lost an earring and let them grow in. Had them redone at 9. Second set at 17, which I rarely use now.

Avery asked for hers when she was 3. I agreed. Her best friend (and cousin) had hers done as an infant, so she saw them all the time. She was completely responsible...kept them clean and never lost anything.

i had mine done when i was 12 (my parents made me wait) - and i've told my daughter she has to wait until she's 10 - i just want her to be fully able to take care of her ears herself and not lose earrings before we get them done :) i have one ear double pierced - i did that myself when i was 15 - i literally just pushed and pushed an earring into my ear one day at the pool. i usually just wear some diamond studs in my original holes now, because i'm lazy LOL!
 
I can't remember how old I was when I first got mine pierced, but I was probably 9 or 10 . . . something like that. I got them double pierced when I was 14 or 15 but let them grow in cause I didn't like the placement. In college I got the second hole redone in just my left ear, but I've let that grow in now as well. I used to love buying earrings and wearing all different kinds of earrings, but at some point, I just started wearing some small silver loops and never really changed them. For our 10 year anniversary, hubby got me some lovely diamond studs and that's what I wear now. I never change them. Once my kids are older, and I don't have the threat of them being yanked on all the time, I think it would be fun to go back to wearing different kinds of earrings.
 
I have 2 sets. My first was done when I was like 8 and the second I just got done about 2 yrs ago. lol. I'm going to go get my cartilage done soon.

I also have my nose done.

I've been debating getting Kennedy's done.
 
I had mine done when I was 11 I think (6th grade). I had them for about 2 months and then when I put in a cheap pair I had a horrible reaction and had to let them close up.

Had them done again when I was a sophomore in high school. Wore them for a few months that time and then put in a pair for the prom and had a horrible reaction again and had to let them close up.

Tried a third time when I was 21 because I wanted to wear earrings for my wedding later that year. This time as soon as I had them pierced I went home and put in 24K gold hoops immediately instead of keeping the studs in. Now I still have pierced ears as long as I wear really really really good earrings:D I'm highly allergic to nickel and even silver. So I have like 2 pairs of earrings that I can wear because they are expensive.

Cheyanne had her first set done when she was in 1st grade (5 years old) and her second set done when she was in 4th grade (7 years old). She doesn't actually wear earrings very much because with sports they are a big no-no, even for practices. Since she is playing sports about 11 months out of 12, she only wears earrings once in a while now.
 
I got my first set at 8. Then my second set in high school sometime. I got a third, just on my left ear, sometime after set two but before college. Then in college I got my left cartilage pierced. I only wear one set now. Lol

I think it was 4th/5th grade... so around 9/10 years old when all my friends were getting their ears pierced... and I wanted to, too... Mom said no! (she doesn't have pierced ears either). I was to wait until I was 13 if I wanted to get them... then my cousin came that summer to stay with us for a few weeks... she had an infection and they had closed up and she asked to have them re-pierced. I remember standing there in the hair salon and she was SCREAMING when they pierced her ears... and I thought - yeah, I don't think I need my ears pierced that badly. :D I still don't feel the need for them... I don't wear much in jewelry as it is.... my hubby, when we were dating... hinted it would be nice if I had pierced ears because it would have given him another option in gift ideas... hahaha...
 
I was 10...but for the last 10 years or so I never wear earrings...like ever. Still my holes are there, they haven't grown up and occasionally I'll wear a small pair of diamonds or something. I'm just not big into jewelry. All I wear is my wedding rings and a watch. I'm boring.

DD will wait until she's at least 10.
 
I had mine done for the first time when I was in 3rd grade. Turns out I have super-sensitive ears, so I had major trouble from the beginning. No matter how clean I kept them or how hard I tried, my ears were always getting infected. One of the holes never would heal, so I ended up taking that earring out and letting the hole heal. For the longest time, I walked around with only one earring in because I didn't want that hole to close up too.

I finally got that one ear re-pierced and got my second set of holes done when I was 15 or 16. My mom was ADAMANT that she didn't want me to get it done because it looked "trashy." So, I did what every selfespecting, semiebellious teenage girl would do...I asked my daddy! :p He signed for me to have them done, and luckily I had no problems with that set. To this day, I still can't leave my earrings out for more than a day or two before the holes start to close up again!

I have expensive ears too! I always had problems with them red/infected with most earrings and let them close up (would reopen, then repeat). When DH brought back 18K gold earrings from Thailand (with sapphires!) it was the first time my ears didn't hurt. I got a few more 18K gold earrings while we were stationed in Asia and those are the only ones I wear pretty much. DH did buy me some white gold diamond studs but they are starting to bother my ears so I wonder if they were as high gold content as they claimed.

I always look at the cute little cheapie fun earrings but I know better now. boring but expensive is my ears taste.

I got my ears pierced when I turned 10. My sister got them done at the same time (which of course i thought was unfair!)
 
I got my first holes at 3, my 2nd at 10, and my 3rd at 20. I also have my cartilage pierced. Sadly, my cartilage is the only earring I wear daily.
 
I was 8 when I got my first set. My mom & I both got ours pierced at the same time. It was back before they had the piercing guns, or maybe before they were in common use. We went to the department store for it, there were no Piercing Pagodas or Claire's around. Heck there were no malls around either :)

They put a piece of cork behind your ear and pushed a long thick needle through your lobe then pulled it out and stuck in the stud. Slow and painful. Took me years to be willing to get the second set. That was done at Claire's when I was 17.

When I was in my early 30s I got a job where I was on the phone all the time calling for missing documents & arranging closings in a mortgage company & earring were uncomfortable with all that time on the phone. Then I did a lot of temp work in call centers with headsets, no earrings allowed. Then when I was pregnant every single pair of earrings I wore made my ears itch like mad. So my holes more or less closed up. I haven't worn earrings in well over a decade.
 
I got my first set done at just shy of 8, and my second set done at 12. Once I got my second set done, it was a constant battle fo my ears closing up in the first set and getting infected. I rarely to never wear earrings in the second set anymore(for at least 10 years) but they are still open. I have to wear only real gold or sterling silver earrings in the first set or they get infected and close up quickly.
 
Thankfully I was 2 or 3 because apparantly there was a lot of crying involved. I'm just glad I don't remember it. Considering my pain threshold, it would never have happened until I was an adult. Hence no other piercings or tattoos.
 
It is interesting how many of us waited until we were older to have our ears pierced. I remember being 10 and every single one of my friends had theirs done and I hated that I didn't. Of course, I only had mine in a few weeks when I got chicken pox. One of the pox grew up over my ear lobe and I had to take my earring out. I remember shoving that thing back in as soon as that pox burst because I knew there was no way my grandma was taking me to get them done again. My mom took me to have them done in the first place (her and a friend of hers) and my grandma wasn't happy at all. My aunt is the one who got the second holes done for me. Again, my grandma wasn't happy but within a few days she admitted they were cute.

I have issues with my holes that some of you mentioned. I can only wear expensive earrings if I'm wearing them for more than an hour or so at a time. In my second holes I can't wear any kind of costume jewelry. Healing takes forever with my ears and once they are healed I sometimes have issues even with gold. My ears turn the gold funny colors so the post of my earrings look strangely discolored when I take them out.

I didn't want to get my daughter's pierced as a baby because of all the issues I had with my ears over the years. I was hoping she didn't have trouble healing like I did but it turns out she did. She wore her starter studs (we got her 14K gold) for over 3 years before we could put in any other earrings without her ears getting irritated. Now, 5 years later, she switches earrings around quite a bit but always goes back to her starter studs or another pair of her 14K gold earrings for long term use. The gals doing her second set (they did both at once, just like when she was 5, so much easier that way!) told her not to change her earrings out for 6 weeks. I told her it will be more like a year at least. The one I got re-done back in October I still can't take out without it starting to close up within an hour.
 
I got my first holes at 14 with self-piercing earrings which are really torture devices. One went through the back instead of the front, so I had to let that heal - I had one hole that whole summer. A friend of my mom's pierced it for me later.

I got 2nd holes sometime in college, but they were too close to the others and limited the earrings I could wear in my main holes, so I let them close. Then later I got 2 more holes in one side - so 3 on one, 1 on the other and I only wore gold posts in those top 2. When I got heavy into my career I decided that didn't look professional and let them close up. Now I just have one in each.

I just had this whole conversation with my SON. LOL His friend was thinking about getting one ear pierced, but changed his mind. My sons have no desire to get their ears pierced. Even though they have friends who have both ears pierced.
 
First holes at 5, second holes at 10 and third through 8th done between 16-20 yrs old. My dd had her first holes at 2, and hasn't asked for more yet. But she is good with them. If she asks for more I'll let her do more. Its just a hole in the ear. :)

My 3rd holes are probably closed up. Never wear earrings in them, I haven't in years.

I got my first set when I was 7, second set when I was 14 and the 3rd ones I was 17.

I had Keira's done when she was 10 months old, because I got tired of people calling her a boy. LOL!
 
My first set was done when I was a little baby so I'm not sure exactly how old I was, but I'm pretty sure it was well before my 1st birthday. My grandma had them done one day while my mom and dad were working. My second set was done in junior high I think and then my third set (up top in the cartilage) was done in high school. Now I only wear earrings in the original set, and those are the diamonds that my dad and stepmom bought me for my college graduation gift. The other two sets of holes are still there though, they've never closed up.

My girls both have pierced ears, I had Kaylie's done when she was about 6 months old and she did really well with them while she was little and she wears dangly earrings most days now. Kelsie was about 3.5 when we got hers done, I had planned to do them when she was a baby but for some reason never got around to it. She asked to get them done, since big sister had hers done she wanted earring like Kaylie so we took her to the mall and she didn't cry at all which surprised us! She also loves wearing her earrings now and in fact the girls have been known to argue over which pair they are going to wear! If they asked for more I'd be okay with letting them have them done.

I've had the conversation with my son lately too. He is 6 and wants his ear pierced so bad. I'm not willing to give in yet. I know its a double standard and all but he's just 6 and has only been asking for a few weeks so he's going to wait. His sister may have got hers at 5 but she started asking at 2.

I have two nephews and a few cousins with pierced ears as well as one of my brothers. One of my nephews' was done when he was just a couple of months old. He had no say in the matter and that kind of irritates me for a little boy. Boys are often judged differently when they have their ears pierced and he didn't have a choice and he has been judged a lot over his short 7 years for it. His parents won't let him take it out though. THEY like it. In fact, his was done because his older brother refused. My brother was getting his done and wanted his step-son to have his done too. He refused so they did the baby. My other nephew (on DH's side of the family) has both ears pierced and a small gauge in them. He's in his late teens and just graduated high school though. His weren't done until HE made the decision to have them. It think he was 16 when he got them done.

My husband got his eyebrow done once. When I asked him why he didn't just pierce his ear he laughed and said his mom would kill him. He was in his mid 20's at the time. He still wouldn't dare do it because it would disappoint his mom. How funny is that? He's not really a mama's boy but he definitely values her opinion on this subject.

Anyway, for the 6 year old boy who wants his ear done so bad, we bought magnetic earrings yesterday. He's been wearing one of those around. He wore both for a while but one keeps falling off. If he wears the magnetic ones for a good long while and STILL wants it pierced for real we'll probably do it.
 
I got my first done at 9 and the 2nd at 19. When I came home from college with the 2nd set my father lost it, threatening to kick me out if I didn't take them out and let the holes close up. (My father is usually mild mannered, but he's very traditional and thinks his way is the only right way.) I took out the earrings in the holes I'd had for 10 years so I could keep wearing the new set while they healed, and he never figured it out.

I wore 2 sets off and on (never when I was with my father) until I had kids who wouldn't stop pulling on them. DH and I were just talking about how our kids were old enough that I could probably start wearing them again. We'll probably make DD wait until she's old enough to care for them herself, so at least 8. She's only 3 and hasn't even asked yet.
 
I had mine done when I was in 9th grade...I was/am a wuss and didn't want anything to do with something that would cause pain intentionally :) Mom had hers done when I was in 2nd grade, and told me I could get mine done too if I wanted...and then I watched the tech accidentally shoot the earring into the wall instead of mom's ear. That was enough to get a big NO out of me, and obviously it took a long time for me to change my mind. LOL And now I rarely ever wear them...maybe once a year at best.

Rachel's aren't pierced...she says she doesn't want them done, and I'm fine with that. Hubby mentioned doing them when she was a baby, but I was against it...I think it should be her choice, since those holes will more than likely be there for life. Let her choose whether or not she wants them. If/when she gets them done, it will be her choice. But just one set...I don't like multiples. If she wants doubles, etc, that will be on her dime, not mine.
 
I had double piercings on both ears done when I turned 18 because I was absolutely forbidden by my mother to have my ears pierced. I keep my diamond studs in the top ones and switch out the bottom ones. I will say that I had so many infections in one of the ears that I let one set close up for a few years.
 
I had mine originally pierced around 5 or 6. I remember crying and my mom took me to get a doll afterwards. They closed up. Then my foster mom took me to get them pierced when I was like 13? Those ones never closed. I had a second set done around 26 maybe? Got my third set around 27 or 28. Those closed up. The second set I have one that is still opened and one that closed so I only wear them in the first set I got
 
I got mine at 12. My ears are also sensitive so I can only wear gold posts. I have a pair of diamond studs that I keep in virtually all the time.
