Picnic food ideas!

Okay girls..I need some brainstorming about what is good picnic food. I can't take any peanut butter because one of our friends has a severe allergy - so what do you pack in your picnic baskets?

Clarifying....this is a field trip type picnic, not a family-style picnic. I'm just having trouble looking in the pantry and seeing good picnic foods lol

Sometimes just simple like sandwiches, chips, fruit, that kind of thing. That's MY favorite, lol!

This weekend we'll do fried chicken, potato salad, macaroni salad, fruit, brownies/cookies, punch, etc.

Not very creative...sorry! :blink:
 
sub sandwhiches, non-mayo salad (usually Black bean cous cous salad or pasta salad - the Pioneer Woman had a good one this week!), chips, cookies, soda.

If you are grilling - we have been doing Turkey Cheddar Wursts or Burgers. :)
 
Great ideas!!! I'm totally doing fried chicken this weekend when we camp out across from the fairgrounds to watch the fireworks!
 
Pita and hummus, guacamole, chips and salsa, bean salad...watermelon...I like to do mini rye and sourdough loaves with a variety of cheeses and meats so everyone can make their own sandwiches. Pickles, olives, pickled garlic. YUM....we may have to picnic in the livingroom
 
oh you are getting me in the mood for chicken! Our favorite was from the Mr. Food cookbook. In a nutshell:

Chicken breasts cut into small bite sized pieces
melted butter (light butter works too)
crunched up cheez-it crackers (reduced fat works)

Dip chicken into melted butter and then press into crackers. Place in a baking pan either sprayed with baking spray or laid on parchment paper. Bake at 350-375 (can't remember and the cookbook is in a kid's bedroom pressing leaves)...until done in the middle. These are SO good...everyone in the family loves it!
 
Okay - let's back it up :) This is a field trip picnic, not a family style picnic LOL

Keely -we're doing some homemade hummus and pico de gallo for pita chips!
