I'm looking at purchasing the full version of Photoshop - I currently have Elements 5. I'm just checking out Amazon right now but there are so many versions of CS4 that I don't even know where to begin. So what do you have, what's necessary and what's overkill?

FWIW, I'll probably try to get CS3 if I can instead of going straight to 4.

Hey Heather, I can't remember... do you have school aged children?

I just bought the full CS3 Creative Suite (PS & Illustrator were my main desires there), and it came with a free upgrade to CS4 (which should be shipping any day now. Anyway, I ordered through an academic site, and i got the whole thing for $400 which is a huge savings.

But it's only open to students, faculty of schools, or parents of K-12 aged children. Totally worth looking into though!

I do - I have a first-grader. Could you link me up? :) That is an awesome deal!

You did? Did you buy the whole suite package or just the individual ones? I bought CS3 there too a few months back and was bummed when I saw the CS4 come out.

I got mine from www.journeyed.com You just have to have proof of academic status (I sent in a scan of dd's report card).

Darla, I got the whole package... Adobe Creative Suite 3.3 Design Standard with free upgrade to CS4. I still can't believe what a sweet deal it was!

If all you are doing is scrapping, buying ONLY Photoshop CS3 should be enough - going through an education discount it still would be cheaper for you. If you want the extra programs (InDesign, Illustrator, Acrobat Pro, DreamWeaver, etc) then the entire suite is a good deal...but most people don't need that.

Having said that, I bought the entire Creative Suite 2.0 Design Premium a couple of years ago (JUST before CS2.3 came out - I wished I'd waited to get that because DreamWeaver came in then, lol). I bought it mainly because I used InDesign and PhotoShop and wanted to learn Illustrator. I got it for around $500 with the education discount.

I am hoping to upgrade my Photoshop to CS4 because I have Vista on my laptop , but I need to wait for the extra money to roll in.

After looking at the Academic Superstore website I was thinking about doing Design Premium for the extra $150. But we'll see what dh will go for. :)
