Photoshop question for PC users

Ladies, I need some Photoshop help! I had to download PS on my bf's PC because my poor little Mac laptop is running low on memory, and when I'm making a LO with lots of layers, it gives me trouble.

So...it's been quite a while since I've scrapped on a PC. I've noticed this funky thing happening with the layers. When I'm on my Mac, if I click on a layer, it stays selected, even if I might not constantly keep my mouse on that layer. On the PC though, if I select a layer but happen to click off that layer, the layer I was originally working on is no longer selected, resulting in me accidentally selecting the wrong layer often times.

I have no idea if I'm explaining this in a way that makes sense, but I've tried Googling the issue with no luck, so I figured I'd try asking here. Does anyone know what I'm talking about?

Would you possibly have "auto select layer" checked off? On my computer it's right below the menu bar and I have to uncheck it otherwise it changes layers on me.

I was going to guess the same thing. Make sure auto-select is unchecked.

I love that feature, sometimes it's handy to just grab a layer and move it around without having to select it.
