Photoshop CS versus PSE?

So I have an opportunity to upgrade to CS4 if I want to, I currently use PSE 6.0.

If I NEVER plan to design and am happy with PSE 6.0 is there really a reason to upgrade?

2 downfalls to upgrading:
--I'd lose all my actions, etc.
--And I'd have a huge learning curve.

What would you do and why?

For me, as a designer who designs almost exclusively in PSE, I would say it isnt worth upgrading at all. PSE has come sooo far that there really isnt a whole lot you cant do in it. I LOVE the silly thing and would rather buy every upgrade for it for $60 than spend the chunk of money getting one version of CS2/3/4 is.

I have CS2 and I really dont care for it much. I think its MUCH more enjoyable and intuitive designing/scrapping in PSE than it is in CS2.

If you cant tell, my goal in my scrapping life is to make PSE "cool" :D

Good luck with your decision!

Jami, you won't lose your actions, you can just load them directly into PS. I think the biggest advantage of PS is the photo editing capabilities (but you can certainly do most things in PSE). I don't think you can make text paths in PSE, but you can load premade ones and you can use more actions with PS than PSE, etc ....

wow! Robin, i had no idea you designed with PSE! thats cool. i have been faced with this same dilemma, wanting to upgrade but not knowing if it was even necessary. i think i'll stick with PSE. i know how to use it and am comfortable with it so why change? I think i'll try to promote PSE right along with you, Robin. its a lot cheaper too so new scrappers can afford it better than the full pricier versions.

Robin you are my hero, I had no idea you designed in PSE either! Thanks so much for posting!!!

It took so much time to learn PSE and I downloaded a free trial of CS3 and was so intimidated. I think I will be sticking to PSE too! It's super to know you design with it Robin! :)

There are a few things I would like that PSE (which I use) does not offer. For example, Totally Rad photo actions, warp capabilities (mostly for shadowing, etc.), text on path. However, I'm doing alright without them, so for the money I've saved not going to full version, I feel okay about that. :)

heh heh, I upgraded to CS3 just for scrapping and have never regretted it. I feel like I can scrap much faster (for me) with CS3. I like being able to do text paths (not that I do them that much) and warping. And I love the group function, use that all the time.

also loading actions and layer styles is so much easier to do! just drag and drop, aaaaah bliss.

I have been able to use PSE actions in CS3 with no problems.

however, it did take awhile for me to adjust to no photo bin but now I am used to it.

I also have PSE6 and just recently got a mailer from Adobe saying I could buy CS4 for half price.
