Personal Trainers

*sigh*

Today was my last session with my trainer. I'm so sad about that!!!

One of the local gyms here offered to sponsor me during the contest, and they gave me 24 sessions with a trainer. So, I've been working out with him 3x a week since the contest started. I never really understood what an awesome prize that was until now that I've reached the end and won't have it anymore.

I SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO wish I could afford to keep going because he's really amazing. He pushes me to do things I've never done before and never thought I could do.

I've made so much progress physically. I'm stronger, my posture is very much improved, and I LOOK slimmer.

But the bottom line is that I just don't have the money to keep going. At $45 per session (he'd want to see me a minimum of twice a week), I just don't see that happening. :( :( :(

I'll still continue to go to the gym daily, but I'll just have to be responsible for my own workouts.

So yeah. That's my pouty post for the day. LOL

Does he have a special for so many weeks or something you could ask for for your birthday or christmas or something? (I know Christmas is a ways away and all, but still.)

Libs, if you have a kinect I so recommend this:

http://www.nike.com/us/en_us/c/training/nike-plus-kinect-training?cp=USNS_KW_0611081618

when you start out it actually does fitness testing with you and then sets up work outs that cater to your fitness levels and your strengths/weaknesses - I've done lots of workouts in my life (no actual trainer though) and this is the hardest I've ever worked, it is amazing actually the way it can recognize your body and help you with form - it looks like it is $31 on amazon, totally worth every penny if you have the kinect system!

I hear ya. I splurged last year on a trainer and was seeing her once a week. I had so much progress in 2 months...then I realized it just didn't fit into our budget :(

my best friend is a personal trainer...and I loves her cause she too was a 250 plus woman, she is one of the reason I was able to lose, and lose it right...She went from size 20 to size 8! I started at 24s, and am in 14's with 10s as my goal. But doing it right is the best!! Love her and she is fantastic! It does help to have a personal butt kicker!

Love having a personal trainer! $45 is pretty cheap around here they range from $65 to $75 so I was pretty happy when I found mine for $40 a session and he brings everything to my house! It's fab and I like not having to drive anywhere! But I am soooo with you Libby if I don't have my trainer I just wont do it. I have zero motivation on my own. I wish you so much luck on your journey and so much props to you for keeping with it even without the trainer.

I would love a trainer. Does your gym have exercise classes? I go to lots of those and I love them, its probably about as close as you can get to a trainer.

i had trainers and i think i am too much of a whiny princess when it comes to them :-D no really, i tend to think that i know what my boundaries are and trainers seem to not know it and tell me things about diet and training that i am sure are b***s***.

so the only thing that i feel really comfortable with is my online gym. it is only 10 bucks monthly and they add new sessions daily, i can watch live (what i never do), i can chose what to see and when.
they have classes with tools ( i love my bellicon rebounder!!!!) but most of them are without and they do push me to the edge of what i can do.

what i think is the biggest benefit: i can do it at home, don't have to take care of "proper clothing" or appearing on time.
if i were a mom,... well i am not but if i were... i would do this. and if your hubby joins, you will have enough reason to do it.

:( sorry it's over libby!!

one thing that i did here was go to "bootcamp" - i LOVED it! a personal trainer led the bootcamp class 3x/week, there were 9 of us who went, and we basically got a personal training session in a small group setting. since there were 9 of us, i think i only paid $10/class or something (it was a monthly fee). i loved it even more than normal personal training b/c i like the small group setting and get really motivated by that. soooo - maybe there's something like that in your area?

the guy who ran mine ended up having to stop b/c he was working WAY too many hours and the bootcamp was the least profitable of his classes/PT sessions - but it was awesome while it lasted. i should look into another one, actually.

I was going to suggest the Y because I know they have personal trainers, but they're still $40/hour here. I know some of the girls at work have done the Bootcamp at the Y, which is more of a group but with a personal trainer leading you.

Would your PT consider meeting you once or twice a month for a "check in"? That way you'd have the motivation of knowing you'll be seeing him regularly to keep you going in between sessions...

Yeah, honestly, I'm not worried that I'll slack off. I've worked too hard and made too much progress. I've just gotten REALLY used to having him tell me exactly what to do. It was easy cause I'd do strength training 3x a week and cardio the other 4. My hubby used to be a fitness leader in the Air force, so it's not QUITE the same as having a trainer (and honestly, I'm way meaner to hubby when he tells me to do something. LOL). But I'll still be able to keep going. No slacking!

Yeah Kim, we are members at the Y. I was looking at their online catalog to see what they offered in terms of classes. I might try a bootcamp at some point. I'd really love to be able to do the one-on-one sessions, but it just ain't happening with the budget. :(

I'm realistic when I say that I'm not gonna win the $10k. LOL I mean, I'd LOVE to, and I haven't stopped trying. But the guy in the lead is WAY out in the lead. I'd have to lose like another 30 pounds by Friday to catch him. ;)

I'd have to lose like another 30 pounds by Friday to catch him. ;)

As hard as you've worked, I suppose that isn't happening by Friday! But it sounds like you've done fabulously with your eating and exercise plan and are so much healthier than when you started.

When I joined my gym they gave me 3 free training sessions, and I was hoping to add a few more to keep me motivated and show me new things as I was ready for them. But like your gym, they only sell the sessions in packages and require too many sessions per month for my budget. Luckily the fact that we're paying for the gym membership (and there's a babysitting room) motivates me to go; I can't stay motivated to exercise at home after the kids go to sleep. But yeah, I can see why you'd be mourning the end of the free training sessions.

I totally get it. You definitely get really addicted to the workouts that a trainer gives you. I love getting my ass kicked and sweating like crazy.

My trainer is starting at a new place in May and I don't think I'm going to follow him there. As much as I love his sessions, I just feel like I could use the few hundred dollars elsewhere. I will just have to take what I know and what I've learned and apply it to my own workouts.

Have you heard of FitnessBlender? They have some really amazing workouts. Some as little as 5 minutes up to over an hour long. I did one of their HIIT workouts on Saturday and burned about 670 calories (I use a heart rate monitor with a strap). Check it out and see if it's something you can use. :)

You should really be super proud of yourself. I can totally tell a difference in not only your body (from your videos and photos) but also your attitude towards eating and better health. You've done an amazing job!

Carrie, I've never heard of FitnessBlender, but I'm gonna go check it out! Thanks for the suggestion!

And thanks for your comments about the changes you've noticed! I really have changed my whole way of thinking. Before, exercise was something I dreaded and found a way to avoid. Now, I don't want to do it, but I push myself every day and feel better for it as a result. The workouts aren't getting any easier but it's because I'm pushing harder. I love it! SUCH a feeling of accomplishment!

I still have a long way to go to reach my goal. My ultimate goal isn't a number on the scale though. I had a Bod Pod test done at the beginning of the contest to determine my % of body fat. I was NOT pleased with that number. So, my ultimate goal is to get that number down into a healthy range. I figure that when that happens, the weight thing will take care of its self. :)

I hear you about working with a trainer.... they are $50-$60 an hour around here, with discounts if you buy a package. When I first started working with a trainer a few years ago, I worked with him once a month, and he gave me a program to follow on my own 2-3 times per week. That worked really well for me. If I had questions, or needed to bump up the weight midway through the month, I just had to email (or see him at the gym). I just recently started working with a new trainer and it's the same deal. I worked with her last week and she gave me a program to follow..... when I'm ready for a new program, I'll work with her again. It's all I can afford at this point, but I still feel like I'm working with a trainer, since I'm doing the program she designed for me. :) I would think that most trainers would be open to something like this.
