i just started to think about this today when i saw jae's location: saschatewan, canada. i had a pen pal there growing up. :) for the life of me i cannot even remember her name now, but we were penpals for like 4 years or something. we became great friends!

did you ever have one as a kid?

i always think as an adult i would like one, but i always wonder if i'll/they'll lose interest and/or forget to write back, etc.

we should do ssd pen pals. that would be greatly entertaining, doncha think?

LOL!!

We've done pen pals on and off through C's growing up years. None last more than a few months (both parties...we sometimes dropped the ball, too). I had one growing up, too, that was fab for years. I think the day and age make it less likely to keep one - but at least you have many other avenues of communication!

I never had a pen pal! One of my sisters did... a guy from another country. I can't remember which one now. Anyways, she did meet him once when they were all grown up and she was living in Toronto. He was on a business trip, looked her up, and she went with a group of friends to meet him! I thought that would have been pretty cool!

SSD Pen Pals! fun!

i remember having one for Spanish class in H.S. she lived in Menorca, Spain. Its an island somewhere of the coast of spain. we wrote a few letters back and forth for a little while, in spanish! it was fun!

I did! Our pen pal relationship was a bit different from the norm in that we met in person first, then started writing each other. We still correspond occasionally, but with life, kids, spouses, et al., we don't write/speak as often as we used to. His wife is insanely jealous of me, which is crazy since he and I haven't seen each other in person since the day we met in 1989. :glare:

I think that's natural to an extent though Leila. I have a BFF who is a male, and Jordan was intimidated by him (probably a little jealous too, but god forbid he admit to that :p) until he got to meet him and hang out and such. It's natural to be jealous of a connection that's lasted longer than your own relationship with that person has, kwim?

I had a pen pal from Japan for a while. We actually met at church camp when I was probably 11 or 12 and she was the exchange student living with my cabin counselor. After camp, she and I wrote back and forth for almost two years. She would send me beautiful things from Japan like bookmarks and handmade paper. I still have it all, actually. I can't remember her name though. Something like Yoko or Yono. I remember she was just the sweetest thing ever....

Absolutely! I think that if Andrew had a female BFF, I might be jealous of their friendship, but not to the point where I would be afraid she'd steal him away from me. It just never made sense to me that she was jealous of someone who lived 600+ miles away.

Yea she does seem to be overreacting a bit, LOL! Especially if they've been together for a while now and obviously, nothing has happened, lol.

Crazy women give the rest of us a bad name :p

LOL! Very true. They've been together for 16 years and have two gorgeous children. But, whatever. Hopefully she won't ever pour pink, green, and white paint all over their house. ;)

I had 2 pen pals (both girls) when I was in high school. One from Swiss and another one in Germany. Sometimes I miss the good old writing letter thing :)

I had a penpal in 1994. He was a single guy working over in Saudi Arabia with my best friend's husband. Her DH gave my address (with my permission) to a few of the guys to write. I ended up marrying one of them. ;) We've been married for 13 1/2 years.

i love this story too!!

I never had one but DS #2 has one right now. They did it through school and the whole class is writing to another 4th grade class in Maine. He is really enjoying it and keeps asking if we can go to Maine to meet him!

I wrote back and forth with a girl from Australia for YEARS. Her name was Kat (Katrina) too. We had a LOT in common. I'm sorry that we lost touch. I was really hoping to meet her someday.

I wish I had the time to have a real pen pal again...

I had a penpal in New Zealand named Anna - for about five years, and it was so much fun! Um, and a few others through International Pen Friends that I started with, but we never really 'clicked'. I love the idea of a penpal now, but I'd be afraid they wouldn't like me and never write back!
Anyone want to be my penpal?

Oh wow!! I had one in Wisconsin, one in Spain, and one in Brazil.

WHen I was really into rubber stamping I also had some pen pals. A girl named Sandra from Hawaii, and a few others that I can't remember. I'd love to be pals with someone. :)

I used to have a couple when I was younger. One was a friend who moved away from my school. The other was a girl I met at camp in '86. The first one, we lost contact a long time ago. The one I met at camp we still email each other now.

I still have mine. She lives in Sweden and we're been writing over 14 years now. We've managed to acquire one husband, one fiancee and three kids in that time. We've never met...someday...

I think it runs in our blood. My mom and her penpal have been writing for over 40 years now. They've met 5 times.

I'll penpal with you if you want :)

I had 2. One from Germany who I would write to in German and she would write me in English. We wrote for years. Her name was Denise. I also had one that lived only a few hundred miles away that I had met at Basketball camp. We wrote for years, too, she was Katie. Don't know why I lost contact with either.

i checked out a couple penpal sites. but i feel wierd, lol. i was laughing at some of the profiles of people. this one girl, i can't remember where she was, was like i might keep in touch, i might not. do not add me as a friend right away it takes longer than a few messages to make that kind of connection blah blah. i cant find her again but she seemed kinda rude, lol.
