I'm throwing a mini suprise party for my mom's 55th birthday on Sunday...well not really a party..it'll just be my 2 sisters and maybe my baby brother if he decides to show up, my dad and maybe my aunt and cousin and then all the grandchildren. It's going to be very simple, my sis is bringing a sandwich platter and I'm doing the cake, but I need some other ideas for some simple stuff kwim?

any suggestions?

Frozen meatballs from Costco in BBQ sauce (or you can make your own sauce with Chili Sauce and Grape Jelly but I'm not sure of the quantities of each) are always a hit around here.

We also always have a cheese/fruit platter with fancy crackers (Pepperidge Farm I think).

Are you looking for munchies or more of things to go with the sandwiches, like salads, etc?

We had a fabulous salad last night that I actually commented would be perfect for a party because you make it all ahead- blanch some asparagus and then chill in the fridge, then drizzle with a dressing of yogurt, dijon, lemon, and dill. It was delish, and super easy! Let me know if you are interested in that one and I will get the specifics for the dressing :)

We usually just do cut up veggies with dip. What about a taco kinda dip. layered like a taco, it is soooooooooo good and serve with tortilla chips

My moms 54th birthday is on Sunday and I have no clue what to get her for her birthday!

I love spinach dip served in a sourdough bread bowl with the bread and some crackers on the side. Another fun one is a shrimp coctaily thing - a cream cheese brick, coctail sauce poured on top, tiny shrimp on top and served with ritz crackers. Banana dip is good too - yummy! It's marshmallow creme with tang mixed in and then you served bananas and other fruits to dip in it.

Fruits with cream cheese or chocolate dip, cheese ball, veggie tray with dip, pita chips and hummus, some sort of hot dip...spinach or mexican, CAKE!!!

We LOVE the frozen meatballs and we make this to-die-for sauce (which people usually cringe when they find out the combo of ingrediants...but it always surprises them when they actually taste it that's it's soooo yummy). Simmer one cup of ketchup to one cup grape jelly and then add a pinch or two of cinnamon. Easy peasy and super tasty!!
