Ovarian Cysts (TMI)

Sorry girls this is probably pretty TMI but I just wondered if anyone else has experienced these and what I can do to get rid of them on my own or to at least prevent them from rupturing again...

So on Aug. 25th I went to put my kids in the car to take them to their swimming lessons and all the sudden I got this Stabbing Pain that shot right through the front of me and out the back just right in the area of course where your Ovary is. The pain was so bad i had to sit on the ground for about 3 mins breathing through it like labor pain! It was terrible. Anyway 2 days later AF shows up and I am just in Misery!!!!! I called my Ob and was able to get an appointment for 2 weeks later ugh. and anyway I saw her she thought it was a ruptured cyst but wanted me to go in for an U/S which I had today. Needless to say the U/S guy said that it was a ruptured cyst and that it would take it awhile to heal since basically its acting like a bruise now and filled with blood! I have never had anything like this happen before and just wondered if any of you ladies have experienced it and what I can expect from here on out and what I can do to make it any better?

TIA

I don't think there's much you can do to avoid them. I've had them almost constantly since my early 20's. So often that I've come to be able to tell when I have one. I usually get a dull achy kind of pain around my ovary area for a couple of weeks and then USUALLY they go away on their own but I have had my share of episodes like the one you described and I know how painful it can be when they rupture. Maybe yours was just a one time thing.

Strong pain killlers helped me. BUT they are hard to take with busy kid's and DH's that work long hours.

Try a heating pad when you can. And alternate tylenol and motrin.

I hope you feel better soon!

I used to get them fairly often. Birth control pills spaced them out to every 8-10 months or so. I would have really bad episodes with stabbing pains that had me writhing on the floor and DH calling 911 thinking my appendix had ruptured or something. The only thing that has really been long term effective at controling them is the Mirena IUD I ended up with to control my endo.

But the pain from even the really bad ones eased off with a couple Tylenol and a hot water bottle. It took 1-2 hours but generally I was simply a bit sore for a couple of days after the initial rupture

oh ouch! i've never had one rupture - but i did have surgery to remove one .. i never knew i had it or had any pain, but i was going through some infertility treatments to get preggo and they found it and thought it would be best to remove it ... the surgery wasn't that bad, but of course it wouldn't be practical if you were getting them consistently ...

good luck!

awww...bless your heart! I have had many, many ovarian cysts sometimes with surgery to remove them but, never had one rupture that I know of. I was always given a pain killer like Vicodin to help manage my pain for them.

Hope you feel better soon honey and that you don't start a recurring cycle of them........it gets REALLY old dealing with constant pain after awhile!

{Hugs}

I just went through this about a month ago. It was very painful! Mine did not rupture that I know of. But I had to go in for an ultrasound and with all of the poking around, the pain went away. My ob doc said it may have ruptured. I have to back for another ultrasound in six weeks to make sure everything is okay. I have PCOS and I am having lots of trouble with it right now. :thumbdown:

Oh you poor ladies!!!! I've (knock on wood) never had one...but hoping you can get it taken care of and not have another!!

You all are using a lot of acronyms I don't recognize...but I'm sending {{hugs}} to all of you who have had this! Wow doesn't sound like the doctors can do much?

Yeah it was definitely not something I want to experiance again, but I think since I have an IUD that you are more prone to getting them. Ugh! Anyway it was misery for the whole week and the OB said that was why I had 2 periods in July, that the ruptured of the cyst caused the 2nd period. Sometimes it really sucks being a woman!

I had a cyst rupture in June (small one) and thought it was my appendix. It wasn't terribly painfull. Next time I'd go to the Urgent Care Center or ER if you can afford it. No waiting for 2 weeks to see the OB. Urgent Care/ER will get you a scan and pain meds ASAP.

I have to go to my OB for a check up soon as I'm in pain again and my period started early this month. There is NO way I'm tolerating 2 periods in a month - :thumbdown:.

I hope you are feeling better. If you can't take pain pills then try some Advil and ask your doc or pharamcist for the maximum dosage you can take safely for your weight. That almost always does better for me than taking anything that might make me sleepy or feel drugged. What mommy wants to feel drugged?

Sharon: Acronyms list:

AF= Aunt Flow
DH = Darling Husband
PCOS= Poly-cystic ovarian syndrome
U/S= Ultra sound
IUD= intrauterine device
BC= birth control

Hummm I think that is all the ones we have used in this thread.

Again thank you all for your advice and well wishes I truly hope this will not be an on going thing for me.
