outfit help please *please please*

you're like stars
thanksgiving- i need an outfit... This will be the first time I meet the boyfriends mom, grandparents etc. I've already met one of his sisters, father and so forth.. but this is the rest of the family.. and its thanksgiving ..and it's the women (haha).. happy happy family time. ians told me that his mom and grandmother are very.. proper- so there's that too. I want to make a good impression, and not look like a hobo you know :p

problem 2. ive gained a little weight since i got out of the hospital, swelling/water mostly, but also inactivity. i'm not exactly back up to my former physical level still. so ive got a little extra flub around the tummy that i would like to not flaunt :p I'm not gigantic, just not at my most confident size here.

So please help.. I need full outfit ideas. Mostly casual-- I wouldn't want to go overboard and not be MYSELF, I just want to look like a more put together version of myself. I wear a lot of black.. mostly black... so if we can work that in i'd feel more comfortable. If you have like full outfit ideas that would be great.. any help would be super appreciated. I know i see outfits occassionally floating on pinterst.. so some of you must be outfit magicians :p

i'm not opposed to jeans, skirts, or dress pants-- as long as the whole thing still feels "me" and not.. old lady/weird/overly done. layers are fine too, i generally always wear layers.

*bats eyes begging for help*

Hrm. I would wear a nice fitting pair of jeans..either skinny leg or trouser cut, with boots or flats, depending on your preference. Find a nice blouse, fitted at the top and a bit looser at the waist. I'm actually wearing something very similar, lol!

I think the jacket (blazer, whatever you call it) dresses this up without it looking like too much. You could even do a black one.

a blazer could work.. i have a long cardigan type thing i wear a lot (its holey, not tgiving appropriate lol) but it gives that same sort of coverage as the blazer- i def feel more comfy in it lately than jsut a straight t-shirt

ooh, love that look tracy. Even a nice cardigan could work too, it's just about making sure the materials are dressy too.

I would go nice jeans in a dark color, black shirt, and either a cardigan or a blazer or even a blouse layered on top.

That second one Aaron posted is way cute! I would totally wear that, too. The blazer/cardigan is a good idea, too. I think dark jeans always look dressy casual.

i looked @ the 2nd sweater up close and its all............... holey.. is that ok for tgiving? (obv you wear it with the tank top.. but ykwim)

Yep, I think its acceptable, maybe more than a tank top though so you don't get cold?

love the description of 'holey'. ;)

if you don't want jeans or dress pants you could do a comfy pair of cords...do you have Kohls? They have nice cords there I just got a few pair lol I'd layer a sweater and shirt or a shirt/blazer, etc...I love the outfit Tracy posted

i didnt realize people still wore cords.. lol

i do have a kohls, it was the only place i found a shrug for the wedding i went to in august-- i remember thinking i should shop there more often.. maybe i'll swing by there this weekend.

I really like the blazer idea, for sure! Aaron's second outfit choice was cute, too. Here are a few other ideas:

This outfit is from Old Navy - it's casual but I think it's cute:

These two tops are from Charolette Russe (my fav store!)

I personally think you would look fabulous in this color:

(if you hate it, I understand, but it is one of my fav colors!)

and I love these pants from the GAP

Hope this helps! :)

ETA: I ::love:: Shawna's outfit ideas - WAY cute!

how do the yoga pants go with not stick thin thighs? ive got perm damage/swelling from the dvts... i tend to keep my legs locked in place in tight jeans ^_^ .. with the yoga pants/stretch pants thing will they just look.... icky?

ITA...after I posted the first outfit, I decided I liked the second one better. And yah, people can wear scarves inside...as long as they aren't like winter scarves...they make some nice "outfit" scarves now.

I like the idea of a nice dark pair of jeans, tank top (maybe with a "pop" of color), and a nice black cardi.

I am in love with this outfit as well...

What is bf wearing? What do the women in his family usually wear? (Has he even noticed?! ha!) I would base what to wear off of his answers. Since he said some of his family is proper, they might not go for jeans at Thanksgiving.
I usually don't do jeans when we go to DH's house because his mom doesn't. She dresses up, so I usually wear pants/sweater, trouser jeans/sweater, or a boots/skirt/tights/sweater combo.
If you go with jeans, I would wear either trouser jeans or a pair with a very dark wash (indigo or black) because they can be dressed up quite easily and don't look jeany. (like Jenn and Shawna's pics)

I got this skirt at Gap (on sale, though). It's fabulous...the zippers add some fun. It's fully lined, has an A cut, and is tad longer than it appears on the model. I wear it with tights and a sweater and I'm totally comfortable running after the boys, etc. in it while at nicer events.

jenn i adore that outfit. i would def dress like that-- if i had the pieces i mean ^_^

penny....... beh, he's not a good gauge. That wedding we went to in august? he wore sneakers... dirty, grungy, running sneakers. :p i doubt he'll dress any better than normal but i want to make a good impression. From the proper comments i took it like you did-- that they'll be dressed nice, and that t-shirt/jeans isnt really appropriate.

that skirt is nice, i could def wear something straight and simple like that.. actually.. now that you linked to it i think i might have an old black wool skirt around that length buried in the closet.
