OT: Soymilk....

So for the first time I have a child that is lactose intolerant. It is not a sever case but enough that Soymilk works better for her tummy. So my question is "Can you freeze soymilk? Something like Silk?" they are on sale 2/$6 and I have several $2 off one and would love to stalk up. So what do you think?

Can I freeze Silk Soymilk?We do not recommend freezing Silk. It can be done; however upon defrosting, Silk tends to separate irregularly and this greatly reduces the visual quality and consistency of soy milk.

You may keep Silk in your refrigerator unopened until the date stamped on the carton. This is not an expiration date, but rather an "open by" date, meaning we guarantee the quality and freshness of Silk for seven to 10 days when opened on or before the date stamped on the carton. Freezing does not damage the nutritional value of the product.

hmmz.. I've accidentally frozen soy milk before (my fridge is the devil), it was fine.. weird, but fine LOL. It changed the texture a lil imo, but it wasn't the end of the world. Are the nonefrid. ones on sale too? I'd nab those first before freezing it.

I have frozen SILK before. My 4yr old is allergic to cow milk but drinks soy just fine. It does change the texture/consistency of it but if it's tolerable for your child it's still ok. I think I used what I had frozen for like smoothie and it was fine...but she would not drink it in a cup so it's something to consider.

Can she drink the Lactaid milk? My DH is lactose intolerant and can drink that just fine. It probably isn't cheaper though.

I drink Rice Milk and buy the long life one that you can keep in your pantry until you want to use it. I know they have long life soy milk here too. Maybe that's an alternative when they are on special.

They sell Silk in 3's at the Sam's Club near us. I get this sometimes for DH's soy chai's he likes to drink. And yeah Kristie they do have the long life stuff here in the US but it does cost more, I've looked into it a while ago. But it is good for when you don't use a ton of it very often.

Thanks for all the info. I am hoping she will grow out of this. It is just a pain to worry about getting two different kinds of milk. I will get a few and try freezing it. It is comes off as a problem then I won't do it any more. Thanks again!
