One more resize question

Can I just resize my 12x12 jpegs down to an 8x8? Or do I need to resize the actual PSE document?

I think I decided that I am going to try to make this book with Inkubooks since I have 80 LOs that need to go in. I have made 2 artscow books and have really liked them but it is going to be cheaper to make this book through Inkubooks since it is so big. I will let everyone know what I think when I get it.

Thanks :)

Yes you could if the 12x12s are high resolution jpgs. However, saving jpgs over and over does diminish the quality each time. I don't know if it would be enough to notice just doing it once, but I guess it could be. Why do you have 12x12 jpgs? Was that for printing as well? Just curious. :)

You can resize your jpgs from 12x12 down to 8x8..I don't think there'd be that much diminishing in the sharpness. You can always sharpen them if so. I know Shutterfly will resize your original size when printing...Not sure who else will.

Thanks so much for the help. I scrap in 12x12 so I save them as jpegs and toss the originals when I know I won't need them anymore.

I guess I will try to resize the jpegs and see what happens.

I scrap 12x12's as well and save just the jpgs. I ditch the psd files (I'm assuming those are the originals you are talking about). I save a jpg of the original and then I also make a websize version and save that for posting to the gallery.

I always burn DVD's of the psd files along with a web sized version so I can see which one's they are. As soon as I delete them, I need them for something, so I always keep the psd or tiff file on DVD's.

I would think that you could just resize your 12x12's ok...just once won't make much of a difference. If you go through Shutterfly, even if you've uploaded a 12x12 layout, you can make an 8x8 book with it!

I was going to say that too, there really isn't any need to resize it. If you select a product that is smaller than your original, there is no harm done (if fact, potentially the quality will be much better because more pixels are compressed to a smaller space). Images are actually not in inches, but rather pixels (a finite amount of data that can be stretched or compressed across a canvas). Most scrappers save pages at 3600x3600, which at 300 DPI equates to 12"x12", but at 450 DPI it is 8"x8" (or conversely at 200 DPI (medium quality resolution) would be 18"x18").

Good luck with your books!

For Shutterfly and Scrapbookpictures that works..but for Viovio and Inkubook I BELIEVE if you want 8x8 pics or a book you have to upload your images in 8x8. They won't resize them for you automatically like the others do.

I know for sure they work with Inkubook, but I've never tried Viovio. What I was trying to say is that these programs aren't resizing the image, they work with the same amount of data you provide and they just compress or expand it depending on the size of product you buy (just like when you print out multiple sizes of a photo). A 3600x3600 pixel image is an 8x8" image at 450 DPI.

So how do you make the image set to 450 dpi? I am using PSE6 :)

Becky, the great thing is that you don't have to do a thing! Just save it as you normally would and upload it to the site you want to use! I don't have PSE, but I assume it's similar to PS where you just "save as", select jpg as the file file type and choose quality setting 10 (that's my preferred setting). You will then have a 3600x3600 .jpg file that you can upload. :) :)

Awesome!!! Thanks so much for the help. Let me ask you one more thing... When I originally saved all my jpegs, I set most of them between 8-10, do you think that is alright? Or do you think I need to go back and resave them to a 10 to get the best quality?

Thanks again for all your help :)

I think the difference would be neglible on an 8x8" image, but I always use 10 just to be on the safe side. I know some ladies use 8 and think the images look good. I've never done a side-by-side comparison. Unless you're planning to print a poster-sized image, you're probably fine anywhere within the 8-10 range. If you're not worried about hard drive space, I would use 10. HTH! :)

I decided I am going to use Inkubooks for my book because I have so many LOs that need to go in there. So you know for sure this works with Inkubooks? Have you done a photobook with Inkubooks before? Did you like the way it turned out (quality, color, etc.)?

Becky, I started putting a book together in Inkubooks, but didn't purchase it, so I'm not sure what the print quality is. My images looked great in the preview when I chose their 8.5x8.5" size book (using my 3600x3600 jpgs). I normally use Winkflash for all of my books (I don't really care for the process of putting the book together with their site, but the price was right). For the holidays, I printed 12x12" size book with about 90 pages for around $50 each. I was very happy with the quality and even got an embossed cover. There were a big hit with my family and I thought they looked classy.

Well, I will give Inkubooks a try and see how I like them. Thanks again for all your help. I really appreciate it :) Have a great day.
