We got a puppy. Or rather, we'll be getting a puppy on April 4th-ish.

She is a shorkie which is a Shih Tzu/Yorskhire Terrier mix.

I have three kids, the youngest is about to turn one.

Tell me I'm not crazy and I'll survive.

You are not crazy and you will survive. The kids and the puppy will grow together and learn from each other. Watch the tail pulls though. :)

Oh my gosh, how adorable! You're not crazy. What's one more child? :) The puppy and the kids will love each other. Just remind them to be gentle and patient. Give the puppy a safe play area and all will be fine.

we got our puppy when mads was 2. they've grown up together and it's been great!
 
I think it's whether the *puppy* will survive. If the kids know enough not to drag it around by the legs, or ears, or generally know how not to mistreat it.
 
awww! How cute! Well, you'll have to let me know how the adventure goes! I get my puppy around Mother's Day. He is just 2 1/2 weeks old right now. So have you decided on a name?
 
Soooo cute!!

You might be a little bit crazy, but it's good crazy! And you can just consider it another new baby, really! It's definitely a lot of work but puppies are sooo much fun, too!
 
Two words- crate train. :D

You aren't crazy. Puppies are wonderful and your kiddos will love having a dog around. And I will love looking at cute puppy pictures. :wub:
 
how freaking adorable! You are totally not crazy. Im in love with that dog and I can't even get another one. We just gave my Sillky terrier (cross between a Yorkie and Australian terrier) to my mom and dad and I miss her so much.
 
A crate will be that little guys best friend. :) Some people think they are mean, but most dogs actually love having a crate to retreat to when they get tired, stressed, or overstimulated. Your puppy will love having somewhere to escape to if and when it needs a break from your little ones. Plus, they make it a breeze to house train and keep pups from chewing up your entire house.

Justice is two years old and still spends every night in his crate and some days while I'm at work. We also have a big, fenced yard so we alternate depending on the weather. At night, I tell him it's time for bed and he gets up and walks to his crate happily. :)

Here is a decent article on crate training. I wouldn't exactly follow the guidelines for cate training. I've always just left my puppies in a crate for a few hours while it was sleepy and they have adjusted quite wonderfully: http://www.inch.com/~dogs/cratetraining.html
 
You will LOVE this puppy!! I had a shorkie several years ago and he was the most adorable, sweetest dog EVER!! And definitely look into crate training!! We've done that with all of our dogs (with the exception of my shorkie - I was young, didn't know any better) and it's worked wonderfully!! Good luck and enjoy your sweet puppy!!
 
Have fun! :) Honestly, I think puppies were harder on me BEFORE we had kids. We had 2 puppies (at different times) before the kiddos and 1 since (also had two dogs in there we adopted as adults). The puppies we had before the kids wore us out. When we got our last puppy three years ago (so hard to believe my puppy is 3!) it was a lot easier and she fit right in. I don't know that I would have done a puppy with a 1 year old though.

My mom has a shorkie. That dog is soooo hyper. She doesn't sit still for a minute. We watched her for a week and I about lost my mind. We have a little dog (a westie) and we've had a person or two tell us ours is hyper but mine would be sleeping in the corner while this one ran around and around the room. She does the same thing at my mom's house so it wasn't just a different setting. She just can't stay still. My mom got her when she was about 10 months old so its hard to say what happened between birth and then and whether its just her personality or something that happened to cause her hyperactivity.
