Okay, a funny and a serious question.

I am having issues with Naomi and her speech. She communicates well, I don't think she is behind (at all) but I'm not sure how to erradicate this unwanted behavior.

First, the funny. She has always called Parker "Carker". Apparently that's how she hears it. And my nickname for him is Parkerkins. So lately she has been calling him Carkerkins. It's just funny and cute. I love it. But I wonder if she thinks that's his name? :p

On to the serious question.

She will NOT stop calling me Lena. It is DRIVING ME INSANE!!:cursing:

She knows. EVERY time she says it (and it comes out, "Neeena") I say, you don't call me Lena, you call me Mommy.

I've said that SO many times that when I say, "You don't call me Lena..."

she finishes with "MOMMY" and nods her head.

But she still does it. Not a little bit. CONSTANTLY. i've tried correcting her, I've tried ignoring it, nothing seems to work.

So, don't laugh.

But seriously...you think I could spray her in the face with a water bottle every time she does it?

Mine will do that occasionally... well.. they don't call me Lena. They call me Sara. Anyway. I just tell them that is not my name and then ask them what my name is, then they say Mommy and then I will talk to them. Alternatively I will also then call them funny names and when they don't answer me I'll say something like, well you aren't calling me by my right name, so I thought I'd call you a different one.
 
LOL Dom tried that for a bit and I'd just ignore him until he said Mom... or say "I'm sorry, who's Annie? I only see Mommy and Dominick here."
 
Oh and Faith has always called Dominick, "Tonka" (cuz when he was first born, she couldn't say Dominick... it was Dumbdick... so we made something else up real quick) but she knows his real name because everyone else uses it, so she picked up on it.
 
Devin called Andrew by his first name for over a year. It then morphed into "Dadrew" for another year. He's now back to using Daddy. We found that one of the reasons that D was calling him Andrew was because everyone else was calling him that. I mean, it his his (middle) name! So I started referring to him as Daddy when Devin was around and that's how Dadrew came about.

I guess my point is that she'll get past that. The majority of kids who call their parents by first names do.

As for the "Carker" thing...well, Devin insisted that the word "horn" was said "corn" for about three years. He knew it wasn't, he just refused to say it properly. That said, if you have any thoughts that her speech might be even just slightly off, call early childhood for an evaluation. If it's nothing, you checked it out and it's done. If it's something, you can get her the therapy she might need. It's all good. :)

Now...I think this one is hilarious. JP doesn't, lol! When he was in preschool, the kids had trouble saying "JP." So they all called him "Pee Pee." I really thought I'd given him a mispronunciation proof name, lol!!!
 
Maybe you should try the water thing....LOL, just kidding.

I have no idea how to fix this, the only thing I can say is to maybe not make a big deal about it. If it were my girls, they would be doing it just because it got such a reaction from me.

BTW...I have it no better...if Steph and I are playing and fooling around (NOT THAT WAY), Kiki always runs into the room and yells, "Stop it Aaron Morris!!"
Yeah...really fun.
 
I would just ignore it. I agree that they do it to get the attention and it'll pass. It's really not a big deal -- after all, it is your name! :D
 
yeah, it started when we started living with Tabatha. When it was just me and David, well he would refer to me as mommy. But here, there is two mommy's so we don't really say that as much...She hears Tristan call me Aunt Lena (which sounds like AnnWena or just Wena)...and she's picked up on it. I know why she's doing it, I'm just not sure how to make it stop. I guess I may stop making such a big deal out of it. I've either been correcting her (in a massive way) or ignoring it, I guess I can just meet in the middle and try that. Like if she says Leena, milk. I can say Mommy will get you milk, and stop telling her to NOT call me Lena. I don't think she gets that.
 
omg ROFLLLLL!! I am dying here Annie!

Emma went thru this before, she would get sassy and call me Tracey. I quit acknowledging she was talking to me and it stopped soon after.
 
LOL I'd rather be called Paula than old woman, which is what my DS calls me.

And LOL Aaron! That is priceless!
 
I think it's normal esp hearing tab call you lena and stuff

One day back when Cam was 2 (and I was VERY pregnant with Ryleigh) we were at home depot and I was trying to get DH's attention. I kept going honey? honey? down the aisle he just couldn't hear me (ignoring?). Anyways Cam yells HEY HOOOONEY and he turns around..she's like Mommy's calling you

Yah..we about died right there laughing. (Pretty sure Ryleigh was born that night too)
 
My daughter did that. All my nieces and nephews called me Ga-ga. It started because my neohew could not say Jessica. That is how it came out. So my daughter when she was 2-3 started calling me it. I did not say anything to correct her because I knew it would end on its own. When my husband would talk to her he would refer to me as mommy and so would the other adults around her.
 
I think it's funny when my little guy calls me Angie. Although I have no idea how he even knows that's my name. LOL
 
Cameron went through this "phase", calling both Jeff and I by our first names. It was because he heard us calling each other by our names and just thought it was cool, I guess. We corrected him a lot, but he kept doing it so we just started saying, "I can't talk to you until you call me mommy/daddy" and then ignore him until he said it the way we wanted.

Its a phase, she doesn't mean it with any disrespect, but its perfectly acceptable for you to require her to call you mommy. :)
