emma has naturally oily hair. any suggestions on what we can do to stop it from looking that way?

i have the opposite problem and have dry, coarse hair. her hair is very thick and it tends to look oily often.

Not sure whether you can buy it in USA... but definitely through some internet store from Europe - BIODERMA NODE FLUIDE shampoo (it's a French brand) - the only ONE that helps my oily hair!

Ava has oily hair too, one thing I do is not wash it everyday. I know that seems counter productive, but the more you wash it the more it tried to re-hydrate itself. I only wash her hair with shampoo (I use a sulfate free shampoo because I am a hippie) 2x a week usually. If it looks bad in between washings I take a little cornstarch or baby powder to the roots and brush it through. I really worry about how it will be when she hits puberty. I had oily hair as a teen and it was such a pain!

I have oily hair, and totally agree with Jenn. I can only wash it every 2/3 days. It will take a week or two before it learns not to over hydrate itself and it won't be so bad. My daughters is the same and we only wash her's twice a week. (unless it needs to be washed for some reason/hairspray/sunblock/swimming/etc.) For us its also about finding a good shampoo/conditioner. Even though its oily I have to condition mine. We switch our shampoos every 3 months as it seems to become tolerated too much and doesn't throughly clean.

I couldn't agree more about not washing every day, and avoiding conditioner. If you feel like she really needs conditioner, just put it on the bottom of her hair, not on her scalp.

I have this hair too...but living in Florida and running makes me HAVE to wash it every day.

I have used baby powder though on an off day.

I used to wash my hair every second day. What also might have helped me, together with the shampoo, was the fact I was ill three weeks in January, I did not go anywhere and did not wash my hair neither. I looked like a scarecrow, LOL!

Big Sexy Hair has a dry shampoo. You spray it in like hairspray. Now that my daughter is a tween she (and all her friends) have that problem!!!

This is what works for us, only wash hair every-other day (or less often than that in winter/fall). Use a dry shampoo or cornstarch baby powder at the scalp for oily roots on those days in-between washings. Also, the all-natural shampoo bars from this etsy shop have helped DH with his oily hair tremendously.

Agree with all - shampoo every other day, a clarifying shampoo (Suave makes one), and the dry shampoo in a can or cornstarch baby powder.
