Oh My Fonts

My Pc has been running super slow lately so I've been organizing it and deleting lots of stuff that I don't use... well I've always been a font horder with more then 3000 fonts I've deleted most of my stash and now only have 360  I should be happy because I just made my pc fast again but I'm going to miss those fonts... even tho i never used them LOL!

How did you ever decide which ones would go?? lol. Bravo to you... I don't think I could actually ever do that. ;-)

I have a toooooooooooooooooooon that I never use! More on my desktop at home than here at work, but still. I really need to go through them again. I deleted a whole mess of them a while ago.

Actually, now that I have ACDSee.....can I use that to look at them and then delete them??

yeah, you can take a peek at your fonts in ACDSee . . . it only shows you a preview . . . you can customize what text you want as the preview . . .

I would think that you could delete them through ACDsee . . . not sure though, esp if you run Vista . . .

You are brave, I think if I delete a font I will want to use it at some point and then have to find it again!!!! I have been a good girl and got rid of some but I just can't do a major delete!!!

I haven't done my fonts, but went through and deleted a bunch of kits that I haven't ever used {lots of freebies, not sure why I downloaded!}...

I use a font manager, too - that way I can keep all my precious fonts, yet not have them loaded into places and be space and memory hoggers.

Wow, you have some willpower :)

I've gotten rid of some, but nowhere near that many!! I think I've been collecting fonts for 10 years... I have a font organizer so they aren't all loaded though.

I purged my EHD last night because it was full, but I hadn't thought about getting rid of my fonts. Aren't there some you aren't supposed to delete?

I hope not kellie LOL, I kept the basic you know Century and Times new roman and stuff like that and my absolute favorites but I didn't want to take any extra space if I'm not going to use it kwim?

A font manager is a program that keeps track of your fonts - can show you the examples of what it looks like in any text you input, and allows you to install and uninstall at the click of a button, leaving your windows/fonts folder free of all but the most necessary fonts. For anything older than XP, it's a great tool because too many fonts in the windows/fonts folder can really bog down a PC. XP isn't supposed to be effected at all, but I still keep mine clear of all but the necessary and my absolute favorites that I use all the time.

Fonthit

this is the one I use. But there's a ton of them out there, including TheFontThing and using ACDsee as a manager.

I've heard there are some you need to keep . . . I just don't know which ones. . .

wow, how do you guys have 3000+ installed? My PSE started getting mad when I went over 600something.

I purged a while ago, and now I just use The Font Thing and install them as I use them.....

I LOVE the Font Thing....when I'm really stuck for the right font I just type my text in there and then start scrolling through all the fonts!
