Now is a REALLY bad time for me to get Mastitis. Can the booby gods please spare me? My right tata was uncomfortable...not excrutiating or anything...but not feeling good all day. I keep offering it to Parker first but he was fussy today. It hurts in this one spot on the underneath outside.....anyway I just looked at it in the mirror and it has read streaks where it hurts :(

To make things worse, the military insurance is complicated now...if I don't drive to the nearest military base I have to pay atleast 15% out of pocket and some places, 100% upfront...so it's a total pita anyway and I've been avoiding the doctor until we get stationed. If it's mastitis I won't be able to avoid going.

can you google for some ideas on what to do.. I haven't had it before *fingers crossed* so I'm not sure how it's 'fixed'. Do you know what they do for mastitis?

OUCH!! I remember when I was b/f my youngest the doctor told me a hot shower and massaging the breast could help some? Hope you can get some relief. Maybe try usign a breast pump to express some milk might help? My son was always such a little piggie I felt like he drained me everytime and would only get that pain if I missed a feeding

He was so grumpy today and didn't want to eat from that side at all...and now I read that having mastitis can cause the milk to be saltier...and won't hurt the infant but could make him refuse the milk...and the red streaks are a bad sign. I'm so frustrated b/c I don't have a pump and the next time he'll wake up to eat will be 4. I can wake him before then but he won't nurse. I've done that before :)

I guess i'm off to take a shower and try to hand express. :(

I just wanted to give you some ((hugs)) girl!! I hope you are able to take care of it in the shower before it gets even worse!

I had mastitis real bad when DD was about 5 weeks old. I had the pain that quickly turned into nausia, then dizzyness and before long everything was black and I coudnt see or hear anything so I got taken to the ER.
So you best try and massage the lump out (if you have one) and try express as much milk as possible out of it so it doesnt get too bad.

Lena, you might be able to call Tricare directly and get a referral to go to the emergency room. I know when I'm on leave I can go to any hospital and be seen without having to pay for it. I'm active duty, but I'm almost postive that DH and the kids can do that. Not sure how it works since your DH is still in basic training.

Call tricare, see what they say.

Hope you get to feeling better soon.

UGHHHHHHHH!

This evening has been such a nightmare! Naomi goes to bed at 8 pm everynight (we use the Ferber method but we share a room since we're living with my BFF while David's in basic...so I put her down and just go to the living room and then I return to the room between 9 and 10). Well tonight at 9ish I came back in the room b/c Parker was grumpy and he wanted to go to bed too...and Naomi WOKE UP. Grrrrrrrrrrr.

it's now 12:30 and she's STILL not back asleep.

So, knowing that her crying would possibly wake him up...I put her back in the crib and let her cry while I went and took a shower...thinking he would wake up and I could nurse him when I got done...

And I came back in and he's slept through her crying but I missed a call from David! Well 3 calls to be exact, in the 15 minutes I was gone.

I was able to express some milk in the shower and wake Parker up enough to nurse for a few minutes (halfheartedly) but Naomi is still awake, my boobie hurts, and now I'm sad over the phone call. It ALWAYS happens that way :(

I'll find out! We have Tricare Standard, not Tricare Prime...that's the problem...and it's because we're too far away from a base. Anyway i didn't know I could get a referall so I'll call and see if that is a possibility if it turns out I need to go. I know it doesn't matter that he's in basic...we have full coverage from day one...

this is just more complicated than I'm used to. When my xdh was in the army, we were always right by a base so there was no hassle...and when my dad was in, Champus was the carrier and things were different (and much more was covered) back then!

Awww Lena.. Im sorry you are having issues... Im sorry you missed David's call too. {{hugs}} I hope Naomi goes to bed soon and that you are feeling better in the morning.

Hahahahhaaaaa laugh with me....we must laugh because this just keeps getting more and more pitiful.

it's dark in here so the kids can sleep....so I didn't notice till now

I came back in after my shower and she was still awake and fussing...well NOW she has fallen asleep.

But guess what? I just found her diaper on the floor.

Where she must have taken it off and thrown it while I was in the shower.

So yeah. I gotta wake her up and put a diaper on her. She's a light sleeper like me. she won't sleep through that.

you gotta laugh. It's pretty funny.

awww sounds like a really bad day!! Hope tomorrow is better. Maybe you can slip a diaper under her bottom while she sleeps and lightly tape it

I got mastisis a YEAR after weaning my son. I had NOOOOO insurance. I took tylenol, HOT baths every few hours and did massages. It cleared itself up in a couple of days.
