Offline blogging program?

So I was working on a blog post (I have a free wordpress.com blog) and my own fault, I did a gesture on my trackpad accidentally and navigated away from the page! Thankfully the auto-save had saved some of what I'd written, but aaaargh it's irritating. I've been finding the online WYSIWYG editor a little cumbersome to use.

My question is: does anyone use offline blogging programs? What do you use? I'd like to try them, but not if they'll only work with hosted blogs or involve paying a fee :/

I use Window's Live Writer and love it. And I know you can hook Wordpress to it because when I was on the Shabby Princesses team I hooked it up to it.

Oh good googly gosh, I'm sorry Trish! I should mention I'm on a Mac :p

But now I'm googling "windows live writer alternatives for Macs"
 
Mac should have something, because I'm pretty sure that there was something I used when I had my Mac. I know I didn't do my posting through *gag* Blogger's website.

I'm new to blogging, so your comment made me do a double take! I like my posts formatted a certain way and have been adding html tags by hand! I just downloaded ScribeFire in order to save post templates . . . will try it out later tonight . . .

I just saw Scribefire for Safari, Maria! Hmm...I think I'll wait for your take on it, lol. I find it kind of weird--an OFFline editor but it's built unto your browser? :blink:
 
I hate posting through Blogger's website. The type area is so small, and formatting how everything looks is a pain. Plus, it's hard to get a good feel of how it is all coming together unless you go and hit preview every two seconds.

It says it's a "WordPress client for Mac OS." Looks like you can compose everything in there and then publish.

MarsEdit works with WordPress, Blogger, Tumblr, Movable Type and more. It's also more pricey at $39.95: http://www.red-sweater.com/marsedit/

I also found Printpress, which is for WordPress and costs $19.99: http://printpressapp.com

I haven't used any of these, so I can't say whether they're any good or worth the price or anything.
 
Hmm...well, at $10 I may be persuaded to give it a try. Gonna see if they have a trial for BlogEasy. Thanks, Lydia!
 
Qumana is another one..I tried it after photography blog I read recommended it (can't remember who grr) it's nice too if you ever ever want to make $$ off your blog with ads it makes it pretty simple. I don't use that function but I do like having my posts prepared offline

This is what I use. I like it because I can drag photos into my posts and it'll upload them all when I'm ready to upload it to Wordpress. WAY easier than adding them in within Wordpress. I've been using it for 2 years now I think so if you have questions about it, let me know. When I looked before there weren't any free Mac options so for me it's been worth the cost.
 
Yeah, everyone pretty much recommends MarsEdit for ease of use and tons of functionality. I don't really intend to add ads to my blog so I don't know if I can justify the cost of getting it, though after last night it is SO tempting!

Lydia, I checked out BlogEasy and it's VERY simple. Like, I believe it can only post text and not other media like videos, photos, etc.

ETA: Thank you for the list of other programs, Meghan! I'm happy to know there are other options :D
