loudest freakin' thunderclap (with simultaneous lightning) that I've ever heard! That's sayin' a lot from a gal who's been raised in North Texas and who lives on the lake.

I totally jumped. Battery operated things all over the house came on out of nowhere. It fried our hub on our server downstairs. But we didn't lose power.

BUT...then we hear a bunch of emergency vehicles get closer and closer and park outside the neighbor's house. Apparently, lightning hit their house and it caught fire.

Very close call for us and I'm so sad for them. I can't imagine how much that would suck.

O.M.G.! That would seriously freak out! Your neighbor's house on fire is seriously scary. I'm glad you are alright though!

Before reading past the first line, I figured it had struck really close. Same thing happened to me a few weeks ago. Out of nowhere (it was cloudy out but no rain and no thunder prior) I heard the loudest crackle of thunder. My daughters, one of their friends & I were standing in our metal roof barn, all of us thought it struck the barn, we went running for the house quickly, and only when I turned around to see if everyone was behind me did I see that it actually struck a tree in the neighbors yard and had already started a fire. Luckily my DH was home and able to help the elderly neighbor keep it under control until the fire department got here. And so lucky I saw it, the neighbors had no idea their back 40 was on fire.

The neighbors are fine...physically anyways. The fire was contained to the attic...which because of the way our houses are built and where we are located are not used for storage (so no lost keepsakes). They don't have young children that would be upset by the ordeal either. Hopefully, they can get things repaired and back in their house asap.

Yikes! Happy to hear that everyone is okay... I'm not a big fan of storms anyways...

Scary! Glad everyone is okay and that the damage to your neighbor's house wasn't too bad.

We had lightning strike close to/on our house one night too. It ended up frying our phone lines and where we had a splitter for our phone lines it had blown it apart and left a black, burned mark on our white baseboard. Talk about scary! We were lucky that night!
