NY1 use magic jack?

I dont have a house phone nymore..
25 bucks a month for just the line & nothing else is to much.

Has or does ny1 use it? Really considering it for us b/c dh says we have to, have to have a house phone. 3 of us have cell phones so I didnt want another bill :/

DH has one that he uses to call us from Afghanistan..not sure how it works on his end exactly but it works well on our end. Delays when we talk but I'm sure that's more with where he's located than with the magic jack.
 
We tried it.... but I don't remember if that was the one that brought down our home network to a crawl or the sound quality was horrible... either way, hubby didn't like it...
 
Nikki wow if he's using it in afghanistan and you guys can pretty much understand each other then that's all I need. the hubby just wants reassurance that he can call home and some will answer

I think before you had to use a computer as a network from what I'm reading it you don't have to use a computer anymore. You use it as stand alone. Im going to research it more.

you could get a pre-paid cell phone. keep it plugged in and charging and loaded with minutes for the incoming calls.
 
We use Skype, but our friends use a Magic Jack here in Malaysia and never have any trouble. The line is clear and the phone rings just like a regular phone. I prefer Skype, but I don't know if you can get a land line number for it or not. We've never really needed it.
 
Okay - hubby is home now... it was Ooma - that was the one that was really bad quality - sorry about that...

The reason why he stopped used MagicJack was because he wanted to use it for dialing into conference calls and it didn't recognize additional number press - you know, "press 4 to do blah"... so he didn't use it much. This was the one that plugged into the computer... otherwise, from what he did use it, the quality was fine.
 
We have switched our land line over to magic jack and really love it. I believe its $60 for an entire year and the call quality is really good. We tried it out for a while before cancelling our land line all together and DH liked it so much that he switched completely.
 
We use Ooma and have pretty good quality. The only times we have issues are when our internet is being flaky.
 
Thank you all I went ahead and read up on it and with all your great feedback I bought it.

It's all set up and the phone is now ringing and my dh is uber happy. The quality is pretty good and It's plugged into the wall and uses the router for network.
