NSBR: ring tones?

Ok, so I just got a Sony Ericcson cell phone (we did a package thing through my MIL who works for AT&T so the phone was free ... knew very little about it before I got it, hee hee) ... and I've never had a phone before where I could do the downloading ringtones thing. Are there any good places to go to download ringtones? Are there free ringtones? How much do you normally pay for a ringtone?

Also, since its a walkman phone ... I guess I can put music on my cell phone. I've never had an ipod or any of those music holder things ... drawing a blank on what they are called even, lol. Anyway, that usually costs money to download songs, right?

There is a thing for 50 free songs at emusic.com that came with my phone ... anybody recommend/not recommend that site?

It's kind of exciting getting a new phone! I haven't had a cell phone in over a year! :)

Here's where you can download free stuff & make your ringtone from your own music.

http://www.phonezoo.com/Welcome.do

Enjoy your new phone!!

I've downloaded a few times from phonezoo, its nice because you can break up mp3s you already have and take out any portion of the song you like. Only problem is I have a sony ericsson through cingular and I wasn't able to download from there anymore  No idea why... its always worth a try and its free, besides the cost of a text message I think.

Our cells are through AT&T so we always just get our ringtones directly from their web site. They are around $2 each but I only change mine every couple of months though, usually to whatever my favorite song of the moment is! I can load music to my phone too but I need to buy a mini SD card to store the music on and the special USB cable to transfer the music to the phone and I've never done that.

so ... I already messed up. That phonezoo site sent a text message to my phone, and I'm not supposed to have texting ... so my MIL won't be happy about that. I will pay for it of course, but yikes. So, my next question is whether the ringtones are sent as text messages? If yes, then I'll have to add texting to my phone I guess. My MIL and SIL (who did get the texting) don't have access to the Internet, so I will end up being the one to get this stuff. So, now that I got the email from Phonezoo ... you get charged for the text message, and you also have to have Internet access on the phone to download stuff? Is that how it works?

well I believe all ringtones come through as text messages, and you use internet on your phone to surf and find them... that cost too

ok, I've been using my Internet at home to look for this stuff, but yeah, I got a confirmation code for signing up there as a text message. I guess I'll have to consider adding texting! Thanks for the information. I have so much to learn since my last cell phone ... way more complicated, lol! :D

oh yeah they are.. I went with the unlimited texting... I have a friend and that's all the does.. 10 cents a text adds up after awhile.

I have used emusic and didn't have any problems with them. Their music selection is not from big labels or something like that. I didn't really know most of it. I got some Wiggles and Laurie Berkner for my kids.

I go thru Alltel and on my LG, the only way I've found that I can download ringtones is right through the Alltel store which is accessed directly thru my phone.
They cost me 2.99.
I can access other things such as wallpapers, too.
