NSBR nose bleeds

I have kind of an odd question...
has anyone had a child who experiences frequent nose bleeds? my youngest has always had sinus/asthma/breathing issues and for about the past year, she's been getting nose bleeds about 3 times a week. They're never bad. They don't scare her, she knows what to do when one happens, but I'm wondering, should I discuss this with her doctor? Are some kids just more prone to nose bleeds?
 
Laura, Ashley was getting them frequently for a bit in the spring when she had allergies, I asked the dr about it and she actually looked up her nose as saw the blood vessel it was coming from, it was very close to the surface. They said they could cauterize it and that would fix the problem, but her nose bleeds ended up stopping so we didn't have to worry about it.
 
That could definitely be a possibility, Cindy! She's always struggled with allergy issues. I've always wondered if maybe our house is too dry, but, I will mention it to her dr. Poor kid ruins pillow cases all the time :(
 
Avery has since he was about 2...he also has a blood vessel that just bleeds easily...Brian had the same thing when he was little. Avery gets them when he has a cold or if he sticks his finger in it too far lol...He also gets them when he's stressed.
 
You can also use a saline spray to help keep her tissue moist, which gets messed up by all the allergy meds she may be on + a dry house. That can help aggrivate nosebleeds as the tissue becomes dry, it is easier to break.

(have you used hydrogren peroxide + cold water soaks on the pillow cases to save them?)
 
I haven't used that, D. thank you! That'll save me some headache with disrupting the princesses bedding sets LOL

I'll definitely try some saline spray. She's pretty tolerant of that, so I'll give that a try. She is battling allergy issues right now with the weather change so that may have something to do with it.

As the weather becomes more dry, sometimes just running a warm mist humidifier in the room for 1-2 hours before bed can help. :) I have a very sensitive nose, and when I'm up north I get small nosebleeds all the time. My grandma suggested a fine coat of A&D ointment or vaseline up there on very dry days... Basically put a small amount on your finger and rub it up in the nostril. Not the most fun, but it seemed to help a lot.
 
Oh yeah. I get them, Ryan gets them, and all my siblings get them all the time when are allergies are acting up.
 
Yes, I forgot about that too, but the dr told me to get the polysporin for eyes because it's more delicate tissue in the nose :)
 
Lots of good advice, but I'd still mention it to the doctor. Are they quick little nose bleeds, or long with lots of blood loss? Keep track of it for awhile. Also, encourage her to drink more water. That's always a good help for dry noses. My sister did the vaseline up the nose thing and it kept her from needing the surgery.
 
she drinks A LOT in general (always has). It's not a ton and they don't last super long. I will definitely mention it next time we go.
 
Cheyanne and Christopher both had/have them. His were from allergies and hers are from dryness. She typically gets them in the winter more and uses saline regularly once we start turning the heat on in the late fall. She also used to get them when she would have anger outbursts - the doctor said that she would get so worked up that her BP most likely was spiking and causing her nose to bleed. Thankfully she's outgrown those spells because those were gushers!
 
Ben has them and has had them since he was about 2 1/2....I think his is mostly for dryness in the air and we have never really thought much more about it....
