NSBR: New car insurance?

Hey ladies! I don't think I've ever posted something like this here, but feel like this is a most cozy/trusting environment to ask a bit more of a personal question. :)

I've found myself in need of a new car- likely going with a Saturn Vue (if you need to talk me out of that, please do so by Thursday! LOL). My new dilemma is now car insurance. I've had the same company for 7 years, but now that I'm buying a car in another state, they don't have coverage here. I've checked out Progressive and they have the best quote by far, but I've read terrible reviews....does anyone have experience with them? With other companies you can recommend (or advise to stay away from)?

I'd really appreciate it!!! :)

Hugs,
T.

we use progressive.. I've seriously never had a problem with them. They've been awesome & our rates are always decreasing. I had a pretty narly accident a year or two ago & they were AWESOME. They fought hard for me & I ended up getting the money I needed (despite the other company trying to refuse to give it to me LOL). Anyway....... I know some people don't like progressive, but they're good in my book.

I have progressive too :) My rates are always going down substantially, that's about all the input I have! LOL

T, Jules and I switched to Allstate last year and we love it. It's affordable for both the older Honda and the brand new Honda. You should check into it!

My DH is a State Farm Agent :D So of course we use State Farm lol. DH's policyholders get a lot of service from him...whenever they have a question or problem or claim...it's him they can contact. His office also has "24 hour" service because of the support of being w/State Farm. They have telephone service even after hours...claims can get processed and at the same time a message or voicemail (if people choose that) gets sent to DH so he knows what's going on.

My family only has ever had AAA and State Farm. My brother had Mercury Insurance for a little bit. Of course young males can be quite expensive and when you are a college student...money is tight. He had accidents (2 I think, not his fault) and it was still horrible for him to get the $. He's w/State Farm now :)

We've had Progressive for several years now & have been extremely happy with them, our rates have gone down each year as well! Before that we had Geico and American Family and our rates were much higher with both companies with the same exact vehicles.

Awesome, thanks for the thoughts and input on Progressive so far! Good to know people are happy with them.

Karen- I'd love to go with State Farm, but unfortunately their rate quote is about 2.5x the amount of the Progressive one.....even for the outstanding service, I just can't justify it (although I might be eating those words down the line, right?!). :)

Manda- I checked AllState and they're a contender now too. Thanks!!

Keep the thoughts comin'!

I have allstate and a Vue!! hehe...whatever you do make sure you get the OnStar service..it's WORTH the $$$ :) (I think it's standard now and first year is free)

We don't drive ours much b/c if we all go out we have to take the bigger SUV (We have a Tahoe also--but I'm SERIOUSLY considering the Outlook) but I do drive it around town when it's just the little one and I or a kid or two lol

You will love it!!

Another Progressive customer and happy!! We have been with them for about 5 years and our rates have dropped more then $50 since the beggining with them. But I will tell you honestly that we haven't needed them (no accidents) since we got them, but I have been more then happy with their customer service and such when I have dealt with them.

Good luck and congrats on the NEW CAR!!!

Yup, the new Vues come with OnStar free for a year. Hope I never have to use it, but nice security! :) The Outlook was a bit too much of a vehicle for me. I have a 2-door Saturn sports-like car right now and I don't think I'd do well with a huge one just yet (and I don't need to cart 8 people around). LOL

Thanks again, ladies!! :)

We are have State Farm, they gave us the best deal since we have a small fleet of vehicles with my our buisness.
I have several friends that have Progressive and they LOVE it!

My parents had a Vue for years, it wasn't my favorite vehicle, as a passenger, but I LOVED driving it. They have a Relay now (they stopped production on this), and I love it, driving and riding. My mom test drove a Outlook a few weeks ago (after I told her that Meg mentioned them too me), so I'm sure i won't be long till they get an new vehicle.

Good luck on your quest Teresa and Congrats on the new ride!

We have allstate and I know they give us a huge discount for having our home owners insurance and car insurance with them so be sure to check that out too if you have Home Owners insurance anywhere! I've had Allstate for years and have never had a problem.

Best of luck with your new car. I've never even heard of a Vue. Guess I'm living under some rock!

Oh I meant to mention like you I've had previous Saturns. Since you own one I guess you can attest to the great service you get with them. The VUE is my 3rd Saturn (We have an older ION and we HAD an SL2 that we sold finally and it had 289,000 miles on it!!)

We had Progressive for about 8 years, including for a front end collision while we were on vacation 600 miles from home and 300 miles from our destination. They were wonderful. Never had a problem

We switched to Geico 2 years ago because their rates were lower. Their service, including a second front end collision in the same car (this time only a mile from home), was equally wonderful.

Well I think the votes are in! :) We're going to go with Progressive for now since it's the best coverage for the money.....and pray as always we never ever have to use them! Thank you so much for your thoughts and suggestions.

We got word tonight that the dealer sold the Saturn we were hoping to buy....but were offered one in a different color instead. I said we'd likely not be buying....then lo and behold I get a call a few hours later that he found us another one!! :) So here's my new baby!

I know lots of you are probably thinking "omg, it's ORANGE".....but it's bold, I'm a little different and I LOVE it!! Hoping to be driving it by this weekend. I'm a little sad that my car I've had since college has gone kaput, but I guess it was time to say goodbye to my sporty car and trade it in for a grown-up version. LOL

It is pretty Teresa! I bet you'll love driving it. I've always been a Honda girl myself and I've been with State Farm since I can remember. We have the house and car insurance with them so we get a combined discount. Make sure to do a LO about the new car, OK? :)

It's way cute Teresa! I actually like the orange color & I still think its very sporty looking even if it's not a little car! Congrats on the new ride!!

I like the orange color, it looks more pumpkin than orange.

I'd rather have that & be able to find it in a parking lot amongst the sea of hundreds of buff & light blue mini vans. :)

Personally, I love the color. Definitely making a statement - bold, fun, and a lot of character. :)

As for insurance, we've been with State Farm for an eternity. Their rates are not the cheapest but they've always been there for us.

Thanks, ladies! :) I'm super excited to get it. We found out this morning that the dealership had a blue one brought in for us.....argh. We have to look at it tonight and decide for sure if we want the orange one (I do) or not....their mistake and they tried to make us feel bad 'cuz they have to bring it in the orange from SO far away and we won't get it til tomorrow now anyway. Right....like they're losing money. :p

See now I think of that color as 'copper' not orange and when I bought my H3 I really wanted it in that color. I had to get silver because it only the H2's came in the copper and I wasn't going there! LOL!

Enjoy your new baby Teresa!

I'd stick with the orange - looks more unique and for some reason I just picture you in the orange and not blue! It's their mistake so they just need to take care of it!

I love the orange! If DH would let me I'd go for a bright orange (or better yet bright lime green) vehicle. Like Stacey says, so much easier to find in a parking lot LOL.

oh we have allstate. Our rates creep up for no apparent reason . . . hmm, maybe I should be shopping around.
