I got promoted today at work. I am now a Tech Sgt (E6). I never thought I would get this high cause I expected to get out after my first 6 years so it was quite a moment.
 
Congrats!

So, I know Air Force promotions fall on the 1st of the month unless you get step promoted so I was wondering if you are Guard or reserve? What branch?
 
My DH just took the test for E7 but we wont find out for 6 months if he made it.

CONGRATS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! More moolah! lol

Mari, I didn't you were in the Air Force. Are you active duty? I'm an SSgt, our promotion test sucks! Super hard, the changed the CDC's on me. LOL!
 
Congratulations! I joined the New Zealand Army intending to only stay 3-4 years, and ended up staying 15! I got to the Sgt level too, though our rank system works differently to yours.

Yep, Air Guard (full-time though), we do promotions on drill weekend with it going into effect the Wednesday following.

Yep, I am active duty Air Guard, Security Forces. :) We don't test, its a good ol' boy system. You do everything you need to do for making rank (CDCs, schools, time, etc), then wait to get promoted. After SSgt, you wait for a spot to open up and then the MSgts and above vote on who should take that spot.

La, its the 6th rank of 9 ranks in the Air Force structure. Does that make more sense? lol

I always wondered how the guard worked exactly. I thought about going guard when I get out. I'm a 1N2, Intel, super boring. LOL!

You really should! We have tons and tons of people who come to us after active duty and a lot of them end up working full-time for us, too. Course some just do the weekend thing, too. I think its a great middle ground.

I've always been told that no one goes into the military thinking they'll stay, it just happens. :D Congrats on the promotion!
 
This thread makes me miss my parents :( my dad is still military...and they're stationed in alaska...(elmendorf)....

On the other hand..Congrats Mari..that's so awesome :)

I was TDY there in March 2001. We did stay on Ft Rich though. What a beautiful place. I recommend a visit, too.
