non-DSLR Camera Suggestion??

So... my digicam decided to just stop working today. It is a Sony and we have had it for about 3 years. I use it a lot and have never had a problem with it until today. It is done. We have tried everything and anything imaginable. We also typed into Google our problem with the product number and got a huge list of links with people with the same problems, so we are not alone and figure we just need to bite the bullet and get a new one. This of course comes exactly one week before we go on vacation which just really tops the cake! :cursing:

SO... we don't have a ton of money and I although I would love to splurge and buy a mac daddy dream camera it is not going to happen. I am looking to spend maybe $300, not much more than that, which I hope is possible. Also, since we have a Sony I am assuming we should try to stick with the same brand since we have a memory stick already and I would hate to buy a new one. BUT really looking for any suggestions... and also even suggestions of where to get the best deal!

TIA!!

What kind of memory card does a Sony take?
If it's an SD card, most digi cam's will take that.

I'm a big fan of the Nikon Coolpix. I love mine and still use it all the time, even though I just got my DSLR. I keep it in it's case in my purse and it goes everywhere wtih me.

Jordan has a Canon exilim or something like that. It's orange. He likes it, but never uses it so he's giving it to his sister for graduation. It is a good cam, I just liked using mine more (and he's not good at sharing :p).

I know that prices are really low on the Canon xTi right now, because the xSi just came out. I found one places that had the base for $319 and here is a link to the base and the kit lense...

Or you could do just the basa and a 50 mm lens for $75.

I know you said non-DSLR, but just wanted to offer this as an option because it is an awesome camera, especially for this price.

I've been looking for a great deal on an xti and the link is definitely that but I had never heard of that place- Sonic Cameras and when I did an internet search this is what I found. Not saying its not legit but its worth thinking about:

Aaaah yes. The old "if it looks too good to be true, it probably is" saying comes into play. Thanks for posting that :)

Oh geez, thanks for the link, that place sounds scary! I'll edit my post to take out the link because I don't want to give them any business!
