New Years Eve

What do you all do for New Years in general and New Years Eve? Pretty sure we'll be asleep long before midnight since we don't go out and don't have a child at home that we have to stay up for. Boy do we sound old!

One of my goals in the coming year is organizing and purging. I have actually started this with my 5 million bookmarks in my browser. Spent a few hours at it yesterday and still more needs doing. My first clue was that I couldn't find something I knew I'd bookmarked. I do have a sneaking suspicion I may have tossed out a bookmark folder that I add stuff to earlier this week. Oops.

Not a whole lot here.. in total honesty new years day is always my least favourite day of the year. I'm not sure what it is.. probably a mix of pressure and the holidays being over and things? I'm no a resolutions type person but it just always seems like such a glum day to me.

We've also never been partiers and the thought of going out on new years eve is not something that sounds pleasant at all :D

hopefully there will be more positive responses for you LOL

We haven't done anything the last few years. I used to stay up until midnight so that I could be the first person to call my sister to wish her a happy birthday. I'm too old for that now. :D

We do a big New Year's Eve fondue party with two other couples and their kids (and now the kids' significant others). It's been a tradition for over 20 years now!

Chinese for dinner… then to the radio station for my father in laws polka/big band show. He has always had a radio show on New Year’s Eve for like 50 years. Kiddo and I play board games - if we are home instead because of weather - we decorate a gingerbread house

We go and tape the count down - if it’s super cold, just the boys go. Then back home by the stike of midnight so we can get our 12 pieces of herring for good fortune. It’s so gross, but I’ve been doing it since I started to make money. The year I choked on a piece number 7 - that year I had huge car bill and other things in July… since then I don’t take a chance.

We like to do board games as a family. When I was in college, it was Rock Band and sparklers at midnight but slowly we've become tired more easily.

New Year's Day is traditionally a First Day Hike (except last year, when it was a boat ride and my husband and son were so chill they napped). This year is our family's Hanukkah party so no hike for me and I am not happy about it.

We used to have parties w/ friends, but we are too old and way past that now. Normally it's just another night for us, in bed by 9 (or earlier - lol).
This year however; friends asked if we'd like to go to a new casino that opened up a few months ago that is about an hour from us. We're going in the afternoon and will grab a bit in the late afternoon and plan on being back home by 8 or 9 ... unless we win a wad of cash at the casino - ha ha.

My hubby's birthday is new years eve- so usually we do dinner for his bday somewhere & then cake at home. Sometimes we have friends over, sometimes not. The last few years we've laid low & just played games and stayed up to watch the ball drop then go to bed! lol

My kiddoes like to hang out with us! We drink wine and play board games and ring in the new year to the NYE countdown in Animal Crossing over champagne. We're all nerds, so it works for us.

This year we're doing charcuterie / cheese and the kids are bringing chocolate fondue! Should be fun!

Doing not much. I have spent New Year's Eve alone for the past 5 years. Ever since my daughter passed away, I can't bear the thought of having to wait till someone at the party wishes me a "Happy" New Year. I haven't used those words for 5 years. I always say: Best wishes for the new year.

I've never really done anything on New Year's Eve. I can only think of maybe 3 or 4 times in my 69 years that I've gone out. And, the worst NYE was in 1996 when I buried my mother. After the post funeral lunch, Dad and I came home and crashed... we were tired.

I actually prefer to stay home and watch the bowl games and the ball drop while dressed comfortably and curled up on my couch. That will be my plan for this year as well.

I actually prefer to stay home and watch the bowl games and the ball drop.

My kids are not interested in this at all (I've tried) but watching the Rose Parade on New Year's Day and the Bowl Games being on all day is SUCH a core childhood memory for me!

It was ingrained in me from my childhood! In those days all the bowl games were only on 12/31 and 1/1. My dad loved football so it was on all day long! Not to mention back in those days there was a very good chance Ohio State was playing in the Rose Bowl (or that team up north aka Michigan). We did watch the parade as well but I lost the desire for that over the years. It's become too commercial for me.

I remember a year when there were 3 different TV's set up in the living room to watch games... this was before cable so all had to be hooked up to the tall antenna that was at the back of our house. Also it was in the days before remote controls (I was the channel changer otherwise). Fun memories!

We haven’t done the NYE party scene in a long time, but we do have a cute NOON Year’s Eve tradition with our playgroup. We get together at the park at like 10:00, do crafts and play on the playground, then right before noon the kids do poppers and we celebrate with cookies and milk in those plastic champagne flutes. The kids love it.

I might watch the ball drop and have appetizer dinner. Husband works shifts, so he’s not always home in time for the countdown.

For NYE, I order Chinese take out and stay home these days. In the past, I've gone to gatherings (too peopley) or even out to dinner (too expensive). If I manage to stay awake, I'll watch the ball drop in Times Square.

For NYD, I like to cook a nice lunch/brunch and just relax and enjoy the day off with my feet up.

We usually hang out at home as a family. We have different appetizers out to munch on through the evening. This year our church is having a game night, so we'll be going to that.

We usually play games have some yummy finger bites on the table and listen to the top 2000 (typical Dutch radio tradition).

This year our oldest is at her boyfriend house new years eve, and i have to work till five. So hubby will organise the most food for the evening. But i think we still play games with the younger two. And watch the masked singer on tv.

I don’t like to be anywhere we have to drive on New Years - too many crazies on the road. We have a fantastic tribe of neighbours though so guessing we will end up hanging out with them and playing dice or cards to ring in the year. If they’re not round though … I’m not opposed to going to bed at 10 and getting some sleep lol

Sometimes my family stays up till midnight playing board games. My kids are all older (ages 17-23) so they enjoy it. I'll usually try to make a couple of fun appetizers and drinks. It also depends on work schedules though! This year I'm guessing will be more low key since my hubby works till 1130 and my son has to get up and go to work the next morning.

We were going to have a quiet night, watch netflix and have lots of appies. A few friends want to learn american mahjong so we'll spend the night playing that as we enjoy some appies. I taught my hubby how to play last week so it'll be good practice for him too. He wants to start playing at our local game every week, in the new year.

The closest we've come to a repeat celebration is ordering in Chinese take out for dinner and then watching the ball drop on TV (and our city had a Pelican Drop, which was like the Times Square ball drop, except it was a huge pelican). I think the last time they had the Pelican Drop was in 2022? I'm not sure, but it just became too expensive. So we just switched over to watching the Times Square ball drop. Football is usually on for the bowl games, so that would be running in the background. I've spent many a NYE scrapping!

On New Year's Day, when my Mama was alive, she loved to cook and we had specific foods. Collard greens, black-eyed peas, mashed potatoes, etc., were on the menu to encourage financial blessings and good health.

I'm not sure what will happen this year. Last year, I was at my Mama's house in a caregiver capacity. NYE was just hanging out, but we had a big spread on New Year's Day.

I tend to be a night owl, so I don't mind staying up.

We play games, have appetizers, we've had my inlaws, SIL and nephews over before, but the last few years it's just been us on NYE. Then NY Day I'll make a pot of black eyed peas & greens, Sean & I will play games and watch football.

Low key.

NYE will be a working/school day for everyone, so *boo* to that. We will have NYD as a holiday, but I doubt we will be doing anything grand. Just another day to pass by, but we will probably intentionally stay up until midnight, just because... :)
