Neutral Paint for interior?

So we are finally getting around the painting our downstairs. We have been in this house for 5 yrs and it still has the builders grade white flat (UGLY) paint. Im looking for something neutral. I thought I had the perfect color from Benjamin Moore called Smokey Taupe (in the greige family) but its TOO grey. So Im looking for the perfect Grey/Beige color. Any suggestions? I've been on Pinterest and not really finding anything.

Or if you have the perfect Beige color let me know. Just dont want it too dark. :)

in our old house, we used bleeker beige (ben moore HC80) as our main color. i didn't even want to try it because i thought it was too green, but it ended up being perfect in our house (we had a lot of light). i got lots of compliments on it :) it's not really grey at all though - more khaki/beige. i also used ashley grey in one room and that worked really well for me, too ... it may be too dark for what you want though.

We just used Malted Milk by Benjamin Moore... I love it... It came out way less pinkish and more beig-ey than the pictures show... Sorry... they seem really big... lol! Good Luck!

Jenn- I never would have picked Malted Milk because you are right it does look too pink. Might have to make another trip to Ace Hardware to pick up that card :)
 
If you can try and get the small paint samples that you can actually paint on your wall. It took us SO long to figure out paint colors and when I thought I had it found out that the paint chip looked nothing like the paint once it was on the walls. it really can be tricky with paint looking different in every house.

I did this when I wanted to paint our living room and kitchen brown and yellow. I got two browns and two yellows to pick.
 
Lol! Me too! We tried a spot in the room and left it up to see for two days. I love it. I can take a picture of my wall too, if you want. (We still don't have curtains...can't find what I want!)

Best thing to do!! We painted the Kitchen (love), Bedroom (love), basement (love) by doing samples first.... The LR/DR we didn't have a sample....way blue-er than I wanted.... But, lol... We love it and it grew on me!

Yeah- Ive painted 2 samples on the wall so far. Dont like either color. So I went back to look for more paint cards and need to pick some colors from there. Then will go get samples. I've been to one paint store 4 times already just looking for colors. OY.
 
So now I have 5 paint samples on my wall. One of these BETTER work! I got a sample of Revere Pewter from Benjamin Moore, Realist Beige from Sherwin Williams, and one called Understated by Behr. All color matched at Lowes. :)
 
I know you've already shopped but if those don't work out....almost our entire upstairs is in Stone Lion from Sherman Williams.
 
We chose Understated from Behr. Now we just need to go buy the paint and actually start painting! LOL. Will post pictures once we are done :)
