netflix woes

Ugh!
Long story short - so don't suggest just doing this, it's not an option- we don't have a bank account we add money to, nor do we have a debit or credit card. We've been using prepaid cards for almost 2 years now to pay any online bills (#1 one being Netflix) but now Netflix is no longer accepting it! Normally, this wouldn't be too big of a problem, but our Amazon Prime membership just went out as well and it'll be a bit before THAT gets paid either.
Now I know I can live without Netflix, but from what I am seeing lots of sites are changing to that policy as well, plus I'd just like to figure a way around this. Also I'm p****d the f**k off that they won't let me pay for it when I have the same money.
I tried adding the cards to PayPal and going through there but now that isn't working either. Surely we aren't the only people in the world living without credit/debit cards!

Yeah, but you can't use the Netflix one without a valid credit card to add to your account. (We looked into that)

The only thing I can think of is to have a friend or family member with a credit card pay for your Netflix, and you pay them for it (per 6 months, or a year) in cash?

That stinks. You can get a Hulu Plus gift card and it doesn't require a credit card on file. I couldn't find anything else to buy with a target gift card, so I just bought a 3 month hulu plus subscription gift card

We actually did just use the current card to sign up for a trial of Hulu Plus. lol

Well, I know you said not to suggest this (LOL), but... have you considered getting a debit card from Paypal? That's what I use almost exclusively. It works just like a regular debit card, but it just deducts from your paypal balance. Not sure if you have to have it connected to a bank account for that option? Maybe someone else knows?

Well anything that requires any sort of approval is out. Our credit is HORRIBLE. Like really, really horrible. lol So does the PayPal one require approval?

I have no credit cards only a debit card. It's been so long since I opened a bank account. Does it require credit? netflix wouldn't take a money order?

I would call and harrass them. Then say well I know Hulu will take the card you are no longer taking. I would also email them.

That stinks! I've noticed sites getting more particular about prepaid cards, too. I use them to budget things like scrap supplies and e-books, and about a year ago I started having trouble using some brands of card that I'd already used without a problem for a few years. Now Paypal is accepting them which seems to have solved my problem, but unfortunately I don't think they allow recurring payments on prepaid cards through PayPal. I hope you can find a solution!

Trish, here's what I found on the paypal site. It sounds like it may not be an option for you afterall. :(

To get the PayPal Debit MasterCard®, you need to:

Have a Premier or Business account in the U.S.

Have been a PayPal member for at least 60 days.

Have a confirmed address. The easiest way to confirm an address is to link a credit card whose monthly statement is sent to a physical street address (not a P.O. box).

Provide your Social Security number and your date of birth.

Be an active PayPal member in good standing.

To apply, log in to your account and click Personal at the top of the page. Then click PayPal Debit Card and follow the instructions.

I agree that I"d probably contact Netflix and ask them what options they offer. I've found their customer service to be really good, so hopefully someone there can give you an option that works for you.

Hmm... can you get a reloadable gift card? They have visa/master card on them and they act as cc/debit card without being "approved"... I think there is a small cost to load them each time. Sometimes there are deals at Office Max where you get cash back for buying XXX amount...

okay - I asked hubby about what i mentioned... he said you can open a bluebird account (either on line or at Walmart)... and it acts as an american express... then you buy Vanilla cards at drugstores to load with cash. Hope that helps.

We tried one of the Vanilla cards this weekend. I think we're going to try out Money Pak reloadable ones since it says you can transfer money from them to your actual account on PayPal.
